If you like one or the other better, do you like it *so* much better you'd say something like "I would find this categorically easier to read and work with". Or do you just like it better.

@brooke Have you seen https://arxiv.org/abs/2308.08955 "rapidgzip"? They came up with ways to do parallel decompression and random seeking, and they support arbitrary gzip files, though they fall back to sequential decompression in some cases. Somebody made a Rust implementation too, though it seems to be vibe-coded.

Wow, this looks amazing in so many ways! So did you buy a membership? Can you discuss your experiences so far?
@josh yes, I became a "Supporter" member back in May (i.e. neither an artist nor label/worker). Beyond buying half a dozen or so albums since, I've mostly lurked on the member forum - the first member general assembly is coming up in like 2 weeks time.
Love the idea of it, and the folks are putting in lots of tech work to improve the side. But the workflow already is quite 'bandcampy' in a good sense for getting files, so no complaints!

Gaussian Splatting is a recent technique for taking a bunch of geolocated photos of a location & converting them into a digital 3D scene! Represented as splotches of virtual paint in 3D space.
Could potentially be very useful...
It works by repeatedly repositioning & recolouring these splats until they match your photos, taking advantage of how efficient it is to render these splats. Once trained it renders in real-time, & training is reasonably fast too.

Ever notice that some people seem to turn off their car at a stoplight, then start it again when it's time to move?
I thought it was a manual thing, like a superstition. I also suspected it was a waste of gas; that the car wasted more gas starting up versus just idling for a short time.
Turns out I was wrong. Not only can it save around 7-26% in gas, it's an actual feature built into modern cars.

did you know that Fibonacci numbers (where each number is the sum of the previous two) can convert miles to kilometres?
1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89, 144, ...
pick any number in the sequence as your miles, and the next number in the sequence approximates the number of kilometres
this works because the ratio of consecutive Fibonacci numbers converges to 1.6180334 (the golden ratio φ), while the number of kilometres in a mile is 1.609344
to see how close this is, consider the approximation compared to the actual kilometres
