It’s Bandcamp Friday this week, Friday 6th of Feb.

“On Bandcamp Fridays, we waive our revenue share so artists and labels receive more of the money from every purchase. Over the last five years, these days alone have contributed more than $150 million to independent musicians around the world.”

When you buy music on Bandcamp you get to download the mp3s (if you want), and artists get about 80% revenue from sales. It’s a crime that they’ve been flying under the radar for so many years, while massively exploitative shit piles like Spotify dominate.

Some additional things I'll tack on:

Personally, I don't love having multiple devices attached to a Signal account. Especially desktop computers.

Multiple devices means multiple opportunities for someone to gain access, and having some of those devices be PCs opens you up to whole other classes of malware that could potentially nab your messages.

Sure feels like we're is doomed to an era where software products get mired in bugs that are important to humans but uncommon to unit-test (like graphical glitches and performance issues). Exhaustive testing has never been more important and the industry is not ready.

@stefan I don't have that grim of a sentiment that Stefan has, I'll always root for the Fediverse. However, he has a point, because in retrospect the whole reason Bluesky's ATProto was born was this:

"The AP community has always been somewhat suspicious of Bluesky, for reasons that are understandable. AP’s community is volunteer driven and the users joined to escape Twitter. So, here we come, a startup funded by Twitter, with strong opinions on how the tech should be done. I’ve heard concerns that we’d “embrace, extend, & extinguish.” I’ve heard concerns that we’d force through changes that people don’t want by dint of being a funded company. You can criticize us for going a different direction but I think it’d have been a difficult collaboration if we chose to use AP, especially since we weren’t willing to compromise on some of the decisions above."

@siracusa for example, I see this list in the “Open at Login” Settings. I’m looking for something similar to easily sort and manage items in my macOS app (in its Settings). But I always found this list a bit clunky and non-intuitive, just wondering if there are better examples from the past.
