Have been groggily writing up the deep reasons why CSS-in-JS (the sort with a "runtime") is unfixably slow led me to reflect on the warnings I gave the various over-Reactors who popularised this anti-pattern. Apparently at some point last night I wrote:
"Evangelical hubris laced with virulent incuriosity has been the calling card of the entire enterprise."
I don't think I'm going to remove it from the post.
@slightlyoff Over-Reactors is a keeper too :)
This technology should not be used for this purpose unless it can be proven to be hallucination and bias free (which is not something the technology is currently capable of).

Surveillance glasses recording people without their knowledge and consent, and especially if they collect nonconsensual data using AI or facial recognition, need to be banned and illegal to sell everywhere.
Tell your local representatives they need to outlaw this harmful technology.
Privacy is a human right.
We need to defend it.

@Em0nM4stodon This is an important issue, but unfortunately I can't think of a clear way to differentiate between video recorded in public to creep on people and video recorded in public as part of journalism or art. Any legislation to keep regular people from being recorded will also be abused by people in power to keep their abuses out of the public eye. I don't like my privacy invaded, but I also don't want to live in a world where it is against the law to identify violent police officers.
@fdroidorg @marcprux And while the banner correctly states F-Droid being under threat: it's not just F-Droid, it's the free Android world being under threat. In its entirety. So the same applies to IzzyOnDroid – but also to Obtainium & Co. And if you think you could still use Aurora to access the PlayStore, think again: how would you install Aurora in the first place?
This is the empire striking. The alleged "security" is just a way to circumvent the requirement to open for alternative stores.
80% des collectivités locales françaises n'ont pas de nom de domaine conforme. C'est pour y remédier que l'ANCT a lancé la Suite *Territoriale* #alposs2026
Trying to somewhat wake up before my 7am media interview about fucking stupid orbital "AI datacenters" and I am GRUMPY. This will go well, I'm sure.

Yes, I know, I'm already getting yelled at.
Well, it's been a few months since I've had to put one of these up, but I'm struggling to get my groceries to reach the end of the month.
If any of you can spare the cash (I know times are tough all around), I could use $150 for a good solid grocery haul to get me to pension day next week. Any little bit helps.

I'll close this when I've reached my goal. Thanks in advance, and boosts appreciated too!
Apple reportedly working on creepware, aka surveillance glasses and other AI-enabled always-on devices.
Not sure how Apple squares these products with its long-standing stance that, "Privacy is a fundamental human right."
@zackwhittaker Jesus Jobs has long passed away, so no more rights to the peasants.
So, I started to volunteer in our local community centre to help (mostly) elder people with their computer and smartphone problems.
It's fascinating. We have people there up to their 90s and they are all every open for change.
We remove ad ID's from phones, change default browsers, switch from MS Office to #Libreoffice.
And for next time I already have a date with an elder lady to switch her old Windows 10 laptop to Linux Mint.
And she is not the only one!
What a time to be alive.
@sturmsucht Bravissimo Chris! Loving everything about this ❤️
I am immensely grateful to the Fediverse for all the encouragement I got here to embark on a #selfhosting journey.
#YunoHost has empowered my digital life in immeasurable ways.
My way of giving back - and fighting the broligarchs of Big Tech - is to create a guide that demystifies the process. I have compiled all my posts so far in a single page:

If you're curious about self-hosting but you haven't taken the leap yet, I hope my articles will be helpful to you ❤️
@quillmatiq @dansup That's great! I'm glad to hear that you're having some positive interactions where people have a sense of shared goals.
What's making that work well? How do we do it better?
I hope the upcoming Fediforum conference will be another chance to have that kind of conversation.
@evan What's making it work is not acting as if a specific standard or technology is the only choice everyone has to bet on or is some ideological choice. It's about opening doors, building bridges, and seeing where we can bring people together. It's not that complicated, it's just kindness and openness.
If you learned something from Chomsky at some point, if he turned you onto a truth you didn't know, that doesn't get erased: YOU learned something.
But look, it was fucking RON PAUL who convinced me widespread abuse by police in this country actually exists, & I ain't looking to Ron Paul to tell me how to think, even if he happened to be the catalyst that helped change my opinion for the better one time.
Do you know anyone who Boost a lot? (ENGLISH ONLY)
#AskFedi
@Stomata me. I boost a lot.
