Libya’s brain drain, 15 years after Tripoli fell https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2026/8/22/young-want-to-leave-libyas-brain-drain-15-years-after-tripoli-fell
The ultra-low emission zone, introduced by London’s mayor Sadiq Khan in 2019 (expanded in 2021 & 2023) has proved to a major success in combating the general pollution & air quality levels in central London & has had a direct impact on children's health.
Khan stuck to his policy & weathered some extreme criticism & threats, but has been vindicated by its success.... this is the sort of political leadership we need for the Green Transition!

For.. reasons.. I am making a wealth inequality playlist. I posted an earlier version about 10 hours ago. This is the latest version reflecting everyone's feedback. Remember, I want songs that aren't TOO aggro and could be background-ish at an event, catchy, topical, without making themselves the center of attention. Here's what I have for V2 of the playlist. Please parse this list and suggest along these lines, if you like.

@codinghorror Just a general vibe (doesn't fall under any of the categories) I'd always root for TMBG's lyric "if it wasn't for disappointments, I wouldn't have any appointements". Maybe file under "disenfranchisement?"
@d_rift yeah i just feel that if there were justice in this world it would be to make sure these people lose

@h4ckernews Oh wow, thats not what i would call reliable 😟
Belgium’s deadly heatwave and largest wildfire in a century show climate breakdown is already overwhelming public services, while politicians remain dangerously unprepared.
Fossil-fuel polluters must pay for the protection, resilient homes and public systems people need, now.
@greenpeace 200 years ago it would've been "fire of the century." Now it's fire of the week.
@dansup I've been waiting since yesterday evening.
Under admin/relays, it says “Instances blocked 96.”
Is that normal?

@hipsterelectron Small primes do tend to have misbehaviors because they get more entangled with other things but that's still a very funny conjecture. Then again I haven't yet seen what the big deal is about twin primes, we can as well find pairs of primes any other distance from each other and additive distance isn't "real" in multiplicative considerations anyway.
@d_rift yeah i just feel that if there were justice in this world it would be to make sure these people lose
If you live outside of the United States,
do you know if your country has a plan if the US government decided to cut access to Google, Microsoft, and Amazon products overnight?
What would happen to your work?
What would happen to your hospitals?
What would happen to your emergency services?
What would happen to your banks?
Imagine overnight, for all those public services and private businesses, no more Windows, no more AWS, no more Google and Microsoft office software, no more remote files storage, no more emails, no more online maps, no more videochats.
What would happen?
Is your country prepared?
@Em0nM4stodon i've had lots of eye rolling in response to my bringing it up at work, only kinda now am i being half taken seriously 🤨
Oh my god you guys, if you are in the UK (or have a vee pee enn I guess), Zoë Kravitz's Blink Twice is on iplayer. Watch it watch it watch it.

@d_rift also there's a very funny attempt to strengthen goldbach's https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goldbach%27s_conjecture
Harvey Dubner proposed a strengthening of the Goldbach conjecture: that every even integer greater than 4208 is the sum of two twin primes (not necessarily belonging to the same pair).
i feel this is an example of "cope" to think the primes have more structure as they get bigger
Goldbach's comet; red, blue and green points correspond respectively the values 0, 1 and 2 modulo 3 of the number.
i feel this image makes the exact opposite argument they want it to!!! they're literally getting more noisy as they go outwards from 2 to infinity
@d_rift oh and this is why and how someone could make themselves believe in a direct answer to the continuum hypothesis https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transfinite_number#Examples
In Cantor's theory of ordinal numbers, every integer number must have a successor.[12] The next integer after all the regular ones, that is the first infinite integer, is named ω. In this context, ω + 1 is larger than ω, and ω ⋅ 2, ω 2 and ω ωare larger still.
