One of the most difficult ones in a while.
I'm surprised I passed the 900 points mark (maybe because the fifth one was actually not that difficult compared to some other ones - And I really need to learn the geography of India)

@ben
Good review! Larry Cohen is an under-appreciated horror auteur, and his method of using horror motifs as a springboard for social critique is a bit Romero-esque. I watched this film again recently and, apart from the general consumer-capitalist text, I also detected a resonance with our current "AI" catastrophe; in the sense that there is a cultural influence that is suddenly everywhere, that almost no one is evaluating critically, and that turns everyone who consumes it into a fanatical evangelist with an inhuman agenda
@dalias ah ok that makes sense. i definitely thought zeroing out memory like that was the job of the OS but i was worried it could be influenced by other processes as well somehow
@dalias i think the entire methodology of their "entropy" collection is really flawed and it's not necessarily their fault since the NIST 800 whatever document describing the DRBG interface leans really hard into describing "entropy" as this sort of mystical aether that fuels randomness and doesn't link to or describe any of the provable randomness guarantees that you can get from an iterated DH (and probably ECDH) modular exponentiation process.
that's the thing that really upsets me about all the coverage of the NSA elliptic curve DRBG because the elliptic curve mechanism was i suspect not only literally not backdoored but actually computationally random. i was on team finite-field DH until the key size was mentioned but i'm ready to learn more about ECC
Oh no am I going to have to watch the whole of The Mentalist yet again
Vehicle communication infrastructure has long assumed that network conditions will be ideal. In the real world, they aren’t. Francesco Linsalata wants to use open radio access networks to help bridge that gap. https://spectrum.ieee.org/v2x-technology-5g-open-ran?utm_source=mastodon&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=fedica-Mastodon-Daily-Pipeline
@ieeespectrum no, don't worry, it's fine if my vehicle can't communicate with anything other than the driver....

Imagine traveling back in time and telling Ray Bradbury that in the future we would indeed destroy #books but for far, far dumber reasons than he could possibly imagine.
@thomasfuchs he *did* get to announce the removal of the headphone jack.
@cyp that was “courage” iirc

@best_of_mltshp what sort of steak problems can someone have? Too many? Not enough? Lack of outlets that sell peppercorn sauce?
@hipsterelectron Well their fix was wrong. Basically, the person doing the fix did what an optimizing compiler would do with UB: They noted that the entire output was undefined since it had uninitialized input, and deleted the whole computation. This also removed all of the legitimate entropy collection.
If they'd just removed the step that mixed the uninitialized (in practice all zero - we had MMUs even back then) data, it would have been fine.

Ran into some seals last week while kayaking in Lopez Island. My second favorite San Juan island!
@andresmh 🤩 🤩 🤩
I don’t know if I need two 4K monitors while I’m traveling, but I just feel like I want this luggage 😂
@alvin buy buy buy
Then, in this in this month happens what we call the "August problem" since we have more #tomatoes 🍅 we can ever consume without freeze them - losing their freshness.
The attached pictures are about one of the harvest, we probably have around 20 ready-to-eat tomatoes per week..
@esparta those look amazing!
Today's Low Quality Ad is for this Cortisol Meter Pin. Can you adjust the cortisol level? Yes. Does that matter? Not really. We all know it's not leaving the red, you nervous wreck.

Not too easy today (except the last one, the last one was very easy)

It’s amazing how a white guy can say that he thinks Black people are inferior and allowing it is academic freedom
But it’s totally unacceptable to say that the law isn’t value neutral (critical race theory).
