Obviously reusing some is better than nothing, but not if the result is "see? there's no problem with producing this stuff at all, we can just invent our way out of it"

Especially as we look down the barrel of our hardware market at the moment.

To order Linux hardware is expensive. Yes we can install Linux and provide an alternative stack. But folks require training and constant support.

Which most of us in our field do not make available. So how do we build the community support?
