@USelaine Yeah, we often end up donating a lot of our veggies to the local food bank (honestly I'm more ok with that than selling veggies for unrealistically low prices at a farmer's market)
@sundogplanets
Our local food bank is dialed in to the logistics of need here, and can also get food to other direct service providers who cook and feed people. 🙏🏼
@troublewithwords That's a good rule of thumb. I had read this author before, so I gave it longer than I probably should have.
@meg I do give authors I’ve read before a little more leeway. But sometimes no matter how well reviewed a book, it just doesn’t merit finishing.

The Voidbringer CEOs have brought upon us the Everstorm, with its characteristic red light, as foretold in the archives of legend. ...and yet the powerful refuse to believe. We are not ready.
@woozle Ha!
I had forgotten about this list but welp:

"Thanks" but it's "thanks" like if you punched me in the face to stop a mosquito from biting me.
In #NewMexico, a statewide network of grassroots activists is working to educate and support voters to make sure NM’s elections are FREE and FAIR. We want massive turnout,to make crystal clear NM rejects the fascist authoritarianism Trump is trying to establish. Subscribe to https://landofaction.org to keep up.
But is Wong saying this stuff because she's a Business Idiot, or because she's trying to sugar-coat progressive policy in ways Business Idiots can swallow? Given the far more insightful comments Wong has made on podcasts like The Bradbury Group, I suspect it's the latter.
The Greens have done a certain amount of this over the years, which is why certain factions of the radical left write them off as "middle class" poseurs. But they're just playing the game as it has to be played.

One of the challenges of public politics - whether you're a politician, candidate or activist - is that you're up against a gotcha industry of reputation launderers. Whose entire job is to make people who work in the public interest - and thus against ruling interests - sound mad, and out-of-touch.
Either you just say 'damn the torpedoes', as I do, limiting your impact. Or, every aspect of your public messaging has to be obsessively crafted to make the reputation launderers' job harder.

Mozilla reviewed the privacy practices of six popular period-tracking apps and has one recommendation: Euki.
https://www.mozillafoundation.org/en/nothing-personal/period-ovulation-trackers/
@evacide like in their 2022 Privacy Not Included list, Mozilla clearly have a thing for Euki. I don’t remember if Drip was around back then, but not to include it in the list now feels like a serious omission.

Omg you don’t like the textiles that are available? Just go shear a sheep, gather stinging nettles, skirt the fleece, rett the stalks to get at the bast fibers, make a spindle, spin the fiber, build a loom, disassemble a bike wheel to make knitting pins, weave your own cloth, knit your own socks, sew a tunic, go live in a bog without any human contact because all of this takes too much time for being social.
This post is about technology.
Starship Flight 13 Scrubbed
What is really fascinating is that SpaceX tried and failed to launch their Starship rocket today. The attempt was scrubbed after four engines failed to light, and there is almost no news coverage of the event. It's very weird.

What I find bizarre: GOP all over the country breathing a sigh of relief cuz the speech was just a straightforward recitation of the same old lies.
"I have spent 15 years working in the business sector, in sustainability primarily, so I... have seen the opportunity for business as a force for good. If we can harness the best of innovation, and great ideas, and competition, to solve some of the world's biggest social and environmental problems, that's a really exciting place to be."

These are Business Idiot talking points.

@strypey I have spent 43 years in the Internet sector and initially saw it as a force for good, allowing us all to communicate more freely. I saw the innovations and great ideas and competition touted as ways to solve some of the world's biggest social and environmental problems and my question is this.
Like "trickle down" economics, when the fuck is it going to start working?
Argentina is in the World Cup finals on Sunday.
What do Messi, Maradona, neoliberalism, dictatorship, anarchism, and uprising have in common?
Why is the World Cup so important in the collective national consciousness of Argentina?
How are its deep footballing roots intertwined with the history of working class immigration and what was once the largest anarchist movement in the world?

So Apple sux, I go over to using Linux.
“Linux has never been a social warrior project.
If you don't have technical reasons, you don't have reasons.
So keep your ethics where they belong - in your personal life. Don't
try to enforce your ethics on others.”

Me: Do we have any cocoa?
Cyan: ?
Me: Chocolate milk. I thought I bought some.
Cyan: *Smiles guiltily*
Me: You drank it???
Cyan: I can't control what I do when I'm upset~
Me: But you don't like chocolate!!!!???
Cyan: Sometimes I don't have a choice!
Anyway, not much here. Much more substance (and much more concerning) was last week’s FEMA grants announcement (mandating specific election “reforms” as a precondition for getting FEMA aid).
Normally, the US president claiming that our elections shouldn’t be trusted would be a four alarm fire, but here in 2026, it’s just a Thursday evening.
I’m not likely to get through the docs he mentioned (on whitehouse.gov) tonight, though there may be some interesting stuff in there. It’s been a long day already.
If you've been enjoying the World Cup, Seattle vs Portland is the best American soccer rivalry, it's going to be a great time and it's about to start. “Brain-free organ sacks” you mean politicians?
@jpm My 'I am definitely not working on growning brain-free organ sacks' T-shirt is raising questions already answered by etc etc
How unhinged was the Trump speech?
As unhinged as Miller's presser turning anyone who disagrees with this administration into a domestic terrorist?
@DeliaChristina I didn't watch, of course, there was a, uhhh, it was a, I had a really important dentist appointment. And my grandma died.
But as far as I can make out, it was an absolute *nothing*. A recitation of every other thing he's said about 2020.
