Like this one, the backslash in the prompt is missing and it's likely that it was due to whatever software was used was swallowing up the character—perhaps when sanitizing strings.
The default system prompt in DOS was just "C>" (letter of current drive plus a ">" character, though basically everyone changed it to include the current directory, so it would have been "C:\>" after boot.
(The reason why it was defaulting to just the drive letter is that early versions of MS-DOS didn't have support for directories.)

You really are classically trained. I consider myself pretty familiar with DOS and I'd forgotten that the prompt used to default to "c>" (or "a>" I assume if you didn't have a fixed disk?).

It's interesting that, during the cold war, propaganda both the USA and USSR told a lot of lies about what was communism to try to influence opinion. The USSR claimed bad things that were not communism were, to justify doing them. The USA claimed good things that were not communism were, to justify not doing them.
Peter G. Neumann, renowned computer scientist, ARPANET/Internet pioneer and expert on technology risks, working at SRI International since 1971, has died at age 93. Peace. He has been my friend and colleague for over half a century. He will be greatly missed.
@lauren Just this morning I was writing something that was, in essence, a reply to a conversation we had... 14 years ago.
