@scottjenson I.. I got the link from about halfway through your blog post, I wanted to be fully informed before replying, so I read through your source links.
In any case, I'm not saying that it's not technically effective, only that what Door dash did feels pretty skeezy on the surface.
I guess that's one of the problems with working for corporations, if the job is done well, it squeezes money out of customers better. I don't have a better alternative.
@mu ah, I see what you mean now. I abstracted the technique for the purposes of the post and forgot it was doordash. I didn't read that example as negatively as you did. If it helps users find the thing they want I see that as a net positive.
However I will totally agree with you that this is a thin wedge and could be used incorrectly. But that's true for any tech
