Sooooo... a local group have a chromebook that is disgustingly painfully unusably slow… sooooo... I’ve set them up with a 2009-ish iMac with Linux Mint installed. These are Very Not Computer people, so we'll see how it goes. Everything they do is cloud-based so shouuuuuldddd maybe be fine¿ Lollercopters. We'll find out over the weekend.

@osma Servers rejecting different sets of replies is already the status quo due to defederation. I doubt filtering reduced-visibility replies unilaterally would change that situation much, especially so for explicitly abusive followers-only replies. Those are already intended to be seen only by the OP and the abuser's buddies, who will probably never honor interaction policies or reply collections anyway. Can't stop people from talking about you on their own website.

There's a town in Ohio where the Fire Department blares a siren at 6:00 p.m. Black people don't like that. Young white people don't understand, because to them, it's just a siren?
But people that know white US history, know that there were hundreds of sundown towns that blared a similar siren at 6:00 p.m. This was intentional terrorism against Black people.
The siren meant that if you were Black and in the town after 6pm, you could be beaten or killed.

@mekkaokereke oMFG!! I lived in a town in MA, about 30 minutes southwest of Boston, until about 2000. The fire station was only a couple blocks from my apartment, and they blew a siren every night at 6:00!! It was insanely loud and scared the crap out of me every single day! It never made sense to me.
I didn’t realize it was a holdover from the Sundown town days! That’s fucking gross that they still did that! And probably still do it to this day too 😡
@technocounselor @spsheridan We did! They were so loving and fun. We even got to go into a pen with three puppies a little over a year old. We both got down on the ground with them to get our faces appropriately licked!

@pallenberg @Umweltbundesamt Wobei man auch sagen muss, dass das Umweltministerium eines der Ministerien mit dem kleinsten Budget hat. Und die nukleare Sicherheit ist die einzige Zuständigkeit des Ministeriums, die nicht nur "Büroarbeitsstellen" kostet.
