@ryanprior We always had dipshits in software, but somehow AI made them drop their mask, for everyone to see.
That's probably the only good thing that came out of AI.

Hi y’all, I’m at the Anarchist Tech Convergence in Montreal and dipping my toes back into the social media waters with this #introduction post!

@Jaimieserotica I wish Amy luck.
@neil
Oi! My chicken balti is iconic!
I refuse to believe I will actually be missed.
@bstacey I would be sorry to see you go, but that should not stop you from leaving if you feel that's what you have to do.
If your camera isnt being used for birds you shouldnt be able to call it flock
NetBSD deciding to take money from FUTO is a personal "fuck you" to me for even thinking I could be helpful I guess 🙃
edit to say that this isn't me going "woag netbsd bad now" its exasperation at the idea that i have to be hypervigilant to takeovers of like every bit of computing that I rely on
Hey, just discovered the fediverse ! For the moment, seems like an architechture similar to matrix (many individual servers), but closer to an usage to instagram or twitter ! Very cool, thank's MATC !

We now note that that we do not waive our attribution requirements for Spritely Goblins, which are present in Apache v2 (and for that matter, CC BY, CC BY-SA, and most FOSS licenses) https://codeberg.org/spritely/goblins/pulls/998/files
So if you train on our codebase, you have to retain attribution, which we consider the most important requirement to motivate development of technology in the commons.
If, somehow, you are using a statistical soup which has no way to preserve attribution, well, we don't permit or approve of dropping such a requirement, and actually, the licenses we use never have.
@cwebber Is this whole free software endeavor about producing more and faster, or is it about empowering people and fostering collectives?
This is the question those LLMs companies have forced us to answer, thereby breaking the alignment that existed so far between industry & “open source” on one hand, and people focusing and user freedom and autonomy.

that’s quite the claim there, vox dot com
Sure, IE was crap, and it was extremely slow (as was Mozilla and every other browser if you'll recall) and insecure. And it likely would have stayed slow, because MS wanted to sell software, and people being able to easily provide software that worked in the browser would have threatened that.
Google upended that with V8 and Chrome. It seemed amazing at the time, but they used ads to fund everything and thus built the surveillance capitalist system that now enslaves us, so on net it's been a huge negative.
Say what you will about Microsoft, but at least we were Microsoft's customer. We're Google's product and have been since day 1.
