Putting Omarchy on your device is up there with "I think we should still be allowed to enjoy Harry Potter" and "the Tate brothers are just putting on an act" and "politics don't belong in tech" and "well actually, it's about ethics in games journalism" and "boys will be boys" and and and
I always love the "do you notice the crease?" Is always a funny thing reviewer obsess over because 50% of all iPhones I see in a the wild have a smashed screen with jagged glass.

I've been on mastodon for almost a year. During that time, there have been several times when I have nearly rage-quit at the quantity of self-obsession, entitlement, and infantile bad-taste shit-posting on show. Today was one of those days.
Interestingly, cis-gender men have never been the cause. A certain other people group almost always is, though.
It's been an eye-opener, for sure.

There's a lot of folks complaining (rightfully) about the money being thrown toward Omarchy while other FOSS projects are struggling for funds.
I'm not a tech billionaire or millionaire (thousandaire, maybe?) but all this reminds me I could do better at donating to things I use myself. So I'm going to throw some money at two projects I use, and try to remember to keep doing that more regularly. I humbly suggest other folks do the same. It'd be great to see a few FOSS projects report a big bump in donations as a protest against DHH.
A lot is being said about DHH's politics and the silliness of throwing money at what amounts to a pile of configuration scripts -- but there's something else at play here: it is an us-against-them play by a minority of wealthy folks who like keeping other people divided.
FOSS isn't about that: open source became mighty because of its community. If we lose that, we lose everything. A handful of people with too much money have managed to funnel something like $13 million into Omarchy for the next few years. What can millions of people do? Let's see.

This was an incredibly disturbing and dystopian moment in Apple’s presentation. It’s concerning that there wasn’t someone in a position of power to say, “This is antisocial and a bad idea. It will harm our customers and their relationships and our relationship to them”. It’s surveillance technology looking for a real problem to solve and failing

@Em0nM4stodon @aral @1password Is there a way to sync records in KeePassium without relying on some other file sync mechanism?
Background: I use Enpass, a pretty-ok password manager (though its Safari plugin is glitchy) that supports WebDAV-based record sync. I have a WebDAV server in my home LAN that my family members can sync to for shared passwords, and it works across Windows, macOS, and iOS of course.
I’m reluctant to rely on cloud-based file sync, because I don’t want my passwords uploaded to a 3rd party server, and because I’m always afraid of data corruption when syncing database-like files using these services.

Like most social networks, Mastodon is not end-to-end encrypted. If you're sending sensitive info it's better to use a separate end-to-end encrypted messaging app.
Mastodon itself warns you about this if you are sending a DM through the web interface (see the screenshot).

TL:DR - Main risk is your server admin reading your DMs, but they would need techy skills to do this.
And the thing is, almost everyone in her life recognizes that she is different from the boys, that she is smaller, softer, vulnerable, sweet, feminine, effeminate -- whatever language you want to use here.
They can tell. Everyone can tell.
Her peers can definitely tell and target her specifically because of it.
And maybe she gets lucky.
Maybe she "only" gets beat up. Maybe she's only lonely and afraid and confused and depressed and suicidal.
But a lot of times, she isn't lucky.
