Early morning, Loch a' Chroisg:
It's often forgotten, by the way, that there were foreign troops in Russia until the mid-20s - the Russian Revolution emerged out of a decade of war.
It has always suited western propagandists to link Stalinism with Bolshevik ideas, rather than this origin in the chaos of endless war and very real threat from abroad.

I don't know how to get strangers to stop sending me their addresses and other PII because they think I'm a data broker.
@UnePorte

Super Official Pronouncement
By the power vested in us, the Internet Users of the World, we hereby declare that as of this date forward the name Google has officially been changed to Evil in each and every occurance of the word.
It is no longer allowed to refer to products like Evil Maps, Evil Mail, Evil Docs and Evil Photos using their former names.
Thank you very much for your attention to this matter.
1Password users, stop wasting all your energy posting on social media about them sponsoring Omarchy and *contact support*. No one cares about the number of @'s the corporate handle is getting. Support tickets roll up into actionable metrics.
You can email support@1password.com. You will probably get an AI response and need to request to be escalated to a human.
@decryption that’s handy info, thx
are there any particular laptops you’ve seen them in that have good Linux support? 👀
@itgrrl nah haven’t seen any with particularly outstanding Linux support - but AMD is well supported, it’ll be the cameras and speakers and shit like that worth double checking
The right-wing opposition to equality and diversity is at one with their opposition to sound science - or any thinking based on reason and evidence.
They believe in authority (in a variety of guises - tradition, religion, force, etc...) - which is inherently opposed to both equality and free-thinking.
Most of all, they can't see the complexity at the heart of the idea of equality: that it's not about our abilities or achievements, but about how loved we are. It doesn't matter if one person can run or calculate faster than another; what matters is that there is no objective viewpoint - no 'authority' outside of ourselves - to say one person is more or less valued than another.
Doing some Ansible work today. I last used Puppet and Ansible about 10 years ago. Bash is my go-to, but I see the benefit of having a more standardized setup when you're managing more servers and clusters.
I note that the event at the Sydney GPO is over now, but it's interesting* how the app icon has been changed back to the regular Aus Post logo already, and that the article I linked to at the top of the thread has already disappeared from their website. Someone at Aus Post has clearly decided that the best course is to memory hole the entire debacle.
@futzle now I’m wondering who paid who for the publicity?
@picofarad
> you all don't have third parties there
No we totally do, and we have a proportional representation voting system (MMP) for our elections. So 4 of them currently have seats in Parliament (our equivalent of both houses of Congress), and after the imminent election, it will probably be 5.

Many of us on Mastodon have pointed out that right-wing opposition to immigration is completely irrational. Given falling birthrates, increasing numbers of retired people, and the economic growth the right also advocates, increasing immigration is the only realistic solution.
But we also know that the right tells a lot of lies - or at least that its politics is performative. This LeMonde article - https://archive.is/20260830125629/https://www.lemonde.fr/en/opinion/article/2026/08/30/the-debate-that-pits-the-opening-against-the-closing-of-borders-is-increasingly-disconnected-from-the-real-european-issue_6756982_23.html#selection-3469.72-3469.86 - starkly exposes how the irrationality and dishonesty interact.
Giorgia Meloni frequently scare-mongered about "mass-immigration", and perpetrated performative cruelty on mediterranean asylum seekers - but in fact she increased immigration by 10%. The far right regimes in Hungary and Denmark did exactly the same - whipping up anti-immigration feeling while quietly actually increasing immigration.
The article's positive proposals around the developed world investing in poorer countries are also good.
