Good! I hate fucking sharks.
For.. reasons.. I am making a wealth inequality playlist. I want songs that aren't TOO aggro and could be background-ish at an event, catchy, topical, without making themselves the center of attention. Here's what I have so far. Please parse this list and suggest along these lines, if you like.
@codinghorror Does Huey Lewis and the News' "Workin' for a Livin'" count as a wealth inequality song?
Faces of women, averaged from thousands of photos

BMW: Bayerische Blackmirror-Werke

Computer club newsletters were invaluable information and learning resources back in the day.

The other paws in the picture – is a colleague helping out?
@AnotherJoe Every time you flush the toilet, you waste 2 liters of water at least. Every time you breathe, you spread CO2 in the air. Every time you use cosmetics you pollute -even "natural" ones) but, the fact AI is a technology and the problem is how you use it, is a very fragile narration and I'm aware of this: a knife can be used to cut food or to kill someone, but if you close it in a drawer, it's all over. The problem/impact of AI is different. They take material without permission, they destroy books, they use fields which should be used for agriculture, well, the problem exists. But from my part, instead of condemning single users making them feel guilty, I'd better fight to ask researches to study less impacting systems.
@elettrona exactly, that the way they're using it. it's not necessary to destroy books to train AI. that only the fastest way. With "we" I meant also the AI companies 🙂

@NohatCoder except you don't need to process them just collect the info and sell it on.
@quixoticgeek Whoever buys the info has to use it. Of course the details vary, but the constant is that these things are not treated like the crimes they are.
People in the UK, does your kerbside recycling accept (some) batteries?
@neil
I'm used to taking them to the recycling bin the the supermarket.
My library offers a "Book Match" service, where you write a little about books and authors you have / have not enjoyed lately, what you're in the mood for, etc.
You're given the option to just let librarians place holds for you, or for them to send you a list.
Either way, a real human thinks about your preferences, thinks about the books they know of, and gives you a few recommendations.
1. Libraries are awesome.
2. I will take this over an algorithm, for anything, any day.

Years ago when I lived in Canterbury, they brought in a phone to pay thing for parking. I wrote a letter to Canterbury city council saying this was a bad idea as someone could put a sticker over the phone number, and scam people for their credit card details. CCC said this wasn't a realistic attack, and they proceeded with the roll out.
The phone number is now a QR code.
And I was fucking right.
@quixoticgeek And will anything be done to stop it? Doubtful.
