I wonder how I managed to watch TV shows with 20+ episodes per season in the past...
I've started watching #Outlander recently and I barely made it to the end of the first 16 episodes season. Feels pretty slow-paced to most shows with shorter seasons.
Pretty sure I won't make it past Season 2/3...
@bbatsov I actually miss the longer seasons. One of the best things about e.g. old Star Trek are the bottle episodes they made because they didn’t have enough money for 20+ episodes with full on special effects.
@encthenet i would like to learn more about disk encryption. i'm currently working on a novel form of integrity for directory trees through checksum graphs for packaging/build processes/version control and it seems very difficult to me to do encryption at the same level whereas application-layer encryption would compose very well. i think these primitives all need to be done better

You'll actually find soon that doing the symmetric part is easy. The hard part is key management including key rotation.
What do you do when the key to your data leaks? How do you rotate it? How do you make sure that data encrypted with the old key is deleted?
The recent ceph issue was partly they hadn't put together a plan on how to have users migrate to a new encryption scheme.
And having been around, encryption agility (switching ciphers) sounds great and is fine if your just interoperating with yourself, but throw in another implementation, and things get a lot more painful when you can't control which bad ciphers they choose to implement (see TLS cipher defaults in most web servers were [are?] terrible).

FOSSY 2026 - Part 2
We have experienced some slowness on our instance today, mainly due to mild DDoS attacks from bot armies, AI, and scrapers. I'm thinking of adding Cloudflare protections and anti-bot mechanisms, as blocking bots at the web server level is like a game of whack-a-mole. However, this needs careful planning, as we don't want legitimate users to get blocked by accident.
We also do not intend to block all automation, since I use some myself and we want our API to stay reliable. Additionally, when content is shared on other social media or messaging platforms, we still want previews to generate properly.
I'll share an update on our progress later.
