We’re excited to share that Bonfire is working with Mastodon on two critical areas of Fediverse infrastructure: remote media storage and automated content detection.
Built around open Fediverse Auxiliary Service Provider (FASP) specifications, this work will help platforms connect to shared services instead of each having to build and operate the same capabilities alone.
Our aim is to make these capabilities open, interoperable, and available for any federated server to adopt.

The thread here has been enlightening, with ppl in other countries not being able to imagine the deprativity of US superstores like Whole Foods which are already doing this. It must be nice to live in a place where you aren't getting scammed constantly by the largest corporations in the world in the most grotesque ways possible, I am jealous.
@jonny I'm curious how this works per customer?
How do they connect the price displayed to the customer, and what if it change etc?
In UK we don't have digital prices tags afaik. Maybe the price is "displayed" on a customer price scanner? We have those but they are not common. I suspect people don't used them where they are optional and I'm not sure they are allowed in law to not display prices on the shelves.
I know that you can insist they honour the price on a shelf even if wrong.

Großartiger Post. Einer der Gründe warum ich nach self-hosted alternativen suche für meine Firma und unsere Kunden. Was wenn big-tech einfach alles abdreht... Dann haben wir hoffentlich selbst die Infrastruktur mit der wir unsere täglichen Geschäfte erledigen können... Denn sonst sind wir erledigt.

@Jeff None of the core developers use them. We rely on contributions from the wider community and don't explicitly list tools people can and can't use – but we do require people disclose when they use LLMs and generally discourage the practice. We carefully review submissions by contributors to make sure the code quality is good and that the patch author understands their own code. LLMs are prohibited for students and other mentored work.
In particular, let's talk about how much BETTER life is after the energy transition, after the transportation transition, and all the other transitions.
We are not going to shiver in the dark, no. We are going to live healthier lives, and have more friends, our children will have bigger lungs, and on and on and on.
