Just before Theo fell asleep in his new favorite cardboard box, he wished you all a very peaceful evening.
@zackwhittaker oh, thank you, Theo!

There must be some kind of mistake because the person who said that “Training AI models on copyrighted works is ‘squarely what transformative use is,’” clearly works for an LLM peddler, no? Surely they aren’t passing themselves off as an EFF employee?

I was just listening to an audio book tonight with my wife, playing on her Macbook Air. The book was irrelevant, some sort of romance intrigue mystery yada yada.
But as we do this more frequently, I am drawn to my family's 1940s Zenith All-Band radio, which sits in my guest room.
My grandma has told me WAY back in the day, the fam sat around this radio in San Francisco many nights, back when listening to radio stories was all they had for evening fun.
Kinda feels like I've come full circle.
@Av8rdan does the radio work?
The original location, as seen in the above linked video, is now an antique store.
Last weekend, I accidentally stumbled across it.
I didn't recognize it until we were half way through the building and suddenly I realized that we were standing where the tree of life and the titular cabbage patch would have been.
Bits of the building are intact, and there are a couple of dolls scattered throughout it, but mostly it's just a weird 80s building.
It was eerie.
It was like walking through a corpse.
Like walking through the ruins of a temple to a mostly forgotten regional god.
Mastodon is a work of fiction. All of the characters, organizations, and events portrayed in your timeline are either products of the poster's imagination or are used fictitiously.
@catsalad you made that up ;-)
So there's a particular grassy outdoor spot where my daughter and the other kids in her after-school program like to sit and eat -- and the kids and staffers have dubbed this location "Snack Meadow", and it's now being called that in official program comms. Is there any more delightfully named place than Snack Meadow?
That dad dilemma where the grass desperately needs mowing but it’s forecast to rain all day
@jpm 🎶 I'm mowin' in the rain 🎵
Friends, have you seen the investigation on UK students, including those at Oxford and Cambridge, hiring Kenyans to write their papers and dissertations?
I assume it wasn't cross Atlantic news as the media only seems to be interested in laundering eugenics into the mainstream.
Think about the audacity of them telling Black people that we're subpar DEI hires and frauds such and these students hiring Black people to do their work for them and pass it off as their own.
@timnitGebru
I don't think that's a UK attitude to equality legislation, despite Brexit and a loud set of nasties.
Quite a disconnect between what the present USA Administration says and does, and over here in a relatively civilised country.
My grandmother used to take me when I was a kid. I don't really know why, because I was not interested in dolls even slightly.
But we went at least 6 times between the ages of 4 and 8.

This is #Fascism.
“When a transaction objectively looks like a sale to a reasonable customer, the customer should get the legal rights that come with purchase, even if the vendor figuratively has their fingers crossed behind their back in the fine print,” EFF’s @cmcsherr told The Daily Mail. https://www.dailymail.com/yourmoney/article-16099153/sony-playstation-digital-game-ownership-court.html
TAKE YOUR BALLOTS TO A DROP BOX THIS NOVEMBER.
Don't use a mailbox. Use a ballot drop box, because the US postal service is _already_ fucking with ballots.
This is not a guess, theory, or extrapolation, this is an _observed fact_. Here's the Thurston County auditor talking about postal service fuckery during the primary, and some of the steps they're taking to get around it:
https://www.thurstoncountywa.gov/news/we-are-still-getting-ballots-should-have-counted-primary
Imagine express mail taking 19 days to deliver to the _next county over_. Literally behaviour they've never seen before. That's they kind of fuckery they're seeing.
Take your ballot to a BALLOT DROP BOX, not a mailbox.
