The short answer to the second question, is no. There is no limit.
There is nothing that an in-group "us" politician could do, that would be so irredeemable, that US consensus would be OK with not saying nice things about them when they die.
Take all the time that you need to process this.
One of the 1st things that Biden did that started losing him support of Black voters, was his callous reaction to Black capitol Hill staffers after Jan 6.
Staffers were terrified of working with people that they knew had opened doors for the insurrectionists.
So he threatened... his own staffers.
Seriously.

The expectation is that staffers be civil and polite with their "colleagues," even if those colleagues publicly express genocidal intent against them.🤷🏿♂️
This trend applies even more so in the event of the passing of a colleague.
Eg, Biden gave Strom Thurmond's eulogy.
Strom. Thurmond.
Seriously.

Why is a gun that big mounted off to the side of its axis of rotation?
That's not a gun meant for a truck mount; it's been repurposed from a helicopter.
Why is a helicopter gun mounted on a truck?
For some reason - maybe no fuel, no parts, no pilots, probably drones - the helicopter it belongs to can't fly.
Why would a competent military have untrained soldiers using jury-rigged weapons cobbled together from whatever they had to hand?
Well, about that.

RSS is a secret trick to making the internet more usable. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2026/06/hate-algorithm-rss-one-tools-youve-been-looking
@eff I used to use RSS back then. It's like a newspaper, which was cool but then I moved to i3wm then I kinda lost interest, for some reason.
who did it best

No one expected Dem pols to say nice things about Bin Laden when he passed. Because he attacked Americans, and was not considered a colleague.
Similarly, no one was expected to say nice things about the premiere of any nation that the US was at war with.
But if the British queen passed, they were.
It comes down to two important questions:
1) Who is an "us," and who is a "them?"
And
2) Are there any irredeemable acts that an "us" could do, that would prevent us from saying nice things about them when they pass? Is there any limit?
The US history of racism leads to some weird answers here.🤷🏿♂️

When the web is written by „AI“ for „AI“, we’re losing both accuracy and humanity. That was not how it was meant to be. https://www.theregister.com/columnists/2026/07/12/its-an-ai-web-and-were-just-rats-in-the-walls/5269760

Separate from "Should we ban Black users for not being sufficiently happy that their abuser can't hurt them anymore" is the discourse around "Should Dem politicians say nice things about their 'colleagues' when they pass?"
This is complicated, and tied in to the nature of racism in the US.

Last week, two earthquakes hit Venezuela. The seismic event was the strongest in over a century, devastating thousands of people.
In an emergency scenario such as this, connectivity can be lifesaving. Official information on where to find first aid, communication between family members, and real-time updates for emergency responders are all critical.
That’s why our community is working to reestablish connectivity in Venezuela to support emergency operations. Read more ⬇️ https://www.internetsociety.org/blog/2026/07/connectivity-is-a-lifeline-in-venezuelas-humanitarian-emergency/
