main artery. It could happen to anyone, at any time.
The condition is instantly fatal to about 40% of victims. If not immediately fatal, probability of death increases about 4% per hour if not immediately treated by surgery, which may or may not be successful depending on the exact parameters of the tear. Think a garden hose split apart under high pressure.
