Migration assistant is pretty slick once you get it working. Within 15 minutes of starting the transfer process, I was running my new Mac like it was my old one. I had to sign back into a few things, but that hardly took any time at all. It actually took longer to reset the air than it took to get everything over to the pro.
Long
It's rough. What seems to work for me and my mental health is to take the small wins...
I've had a couple versions of this conversation with my partner. It was a mixed bag. He still uses some genAI (his justification is that him making increasingly absurd werq room entrance lines and getting genuine joy from that isn't comparable to companies using it to replace their workers and this timeline is already too full of putting on individuals that which is significantly more the responsibility of the companies producing these things)
BUT he uses signal and got rid of messenger
BUT he deleted his Facebook
AND he's generally on the lookout for alternatives to things now because hes seen that sometimes the swap isn't as scary as you think
So silver lining, it's not futile, it's just unlikely to find a good match for every use case... at least until enough people (or collectives) build alternatives that are viable for them. So now my approach is more .. be happy about the small changes and encourage them to keep going... The state of the Internet (and computing in general rn) is just so depressing tho
@InfiniteNutshell
Today was a pretty easy day, all things considered. We got loaded in and mostly set up at momocon (there's a little bit left to do tomorrow morning.) then the road we needed to take flooded on our way home, so we detoured by my favorite restaurant and had dinner and a late tea service.
And then we mozzied back home and unloaded the kiln.
Look!
@lemonde It is unacceptable to punish human rights defenders for doing the crucial work that we need them to do. This has been a shameful incident. We as a world community have to start acting like human rights frameworks matter and that human rights workers are sacrosanct or we aren't going to have rights left to defend.
@mayintoronto I want to read more fantasy books, do you recommend starting on wheel of time if I've never read it?
@sundogplanets @mayintoronto No, i did it over the last couple of years and it was not worth it. Robin Hobb has some great giant fantasy series that you might like
contributors will get better releases from a slower, more present me, than from a rushed exhausted me, even if there are fewer commits per week. The work itself will benefit from it, it won't be degraded, I think. Because I'll hear things in TGSpeechBox at slower listening rates that I wasn't hearing at 600 WPM, including in my own synthesis output. I think this shift is good, not bad.
Those orange balls — called aviation marker balls — on power lines aren’t random. A professor who teaches and researches power systems explains them.

@TheConversationUS No, for real? 🙄

1. I’ve re-read it 3x now and still see this strongly implied, yes. 🤷🏽♀️
2. There are gaps and omissions about EVERYTHING, not just a11y! It’s not that a11y was deprioritized over other things, it’s that this is a very early preview.
3. In every project, “Open issues” is the standard response when someone alludes they’ve found issues, without providing details. It doesn’t mean the project is relying on these.
@SaraSoueidan @christianoliff @castastrophe @aardrian Also, I don’t know which guides @knowler was referring to but what I’ve seen from the folks leading the project was that a11y was definitely a priority for *them*.

Tonight's Low Quality Ad is for this "Hell Is A Place On The Internet" Shirt. To be more accurate, I would argue that Hell is most places on the internet.

I'm on my 4th session to recovery (from anxiety) and I have zero fears about travel. I feel like I'm the one in power to slow things down. Might even start working on more Speechbox things again, but at a much, much slower pace. I'm very appreciative of the community understanding my need for a break, but coming back to it still testing TGSpeechbox at all speech rates but myself going to a slower one, definitely. I do think there's something more smooth about the voice than Eloquence I liked. There's still potential in it, but in the past, I've really enabled my anxiety to stay.
Pushing out 66 commits in 2 days. Not healthy. Taking the chance to slow down and not let life's constant "what's next?" push you to the brink of always finding something to do. It puts you only in that survival mode where you know you'll wake up, work, sleep 4 hours, work again on personal stuff, sleep 4 more hours, wake up, do it all over again.
