Someone in my household has turned on motion smoothing on the TV. I have no words.
“Lost words are like a trail of bread crumbs leading the way back to some of the things capitalism has stolen from us!…
there are incredibly few jobs today that complete a productive process, as every process has been subdivided into a thousand different steps to complete a finished product…
In most places these days, you couldn’t find the infrastructure to produce a single finished product, even if you had plenty of raw materials on hand!…
useful skills are stolen from us and we even lose the memory that those skills once existed. Losing the vocabulary to talk about those skills is an integral part of that loss…
intentional extermination of entire Indigenous languages rich with vocabulary and grammar that express a completely different relationship with the land and the water and our other (nonhuman) relations all make it easier for us to be suckered by the false promises of liberalism and democracy or of authoritarian communism. They represent an adherence to false histories that turn us into our own worst enemies.“
One other thing I will have to figure out wrt Guix is encrypted disk + Clevis + Tang, and ssh + wireguard on initramfs as fallback.
And something like sops-nix (but as far as I see, a similar thing exists for Guix aswell) so I can have reasonable secret management.
...and Quickbeam & my desktop will be hard to migrate. My Mom's likely staying on NixOS, because it works for her, and she does not like change. She wouldn't benefit from switching to Guix.
My desktop & Quickbeam will be harder, because they're physical PCs in my homelab. I can't spin up a new one, and delete the old.
I have to do actual in-place migration. That'll suck. But - at least in case of my desktop - it lets me correct some early mistakes.
Just letting you all know I took a cognitive exam* and I aced it
*did the wordle
@evacide This is why I self-host a SearXNG instance. Too many search engines deciding what I need to see, so I ask them all to get a more complete answer.
I'm guessing the arm on that mining rig waves all the time by itself ?
Lolol
@thomasfuchs Back when their motto was "don't be evil." :(
*shrugs*
I dunno what to tell you - statistically speaking it is way more likely you, your partner, or members of your family will end up on the 5 O'clock news involved in a violent crime (as perp or victims) when you buy what most normal people would term "an assault rifle," than it is that you will use that weapon to "defend yourself" against "bad guys" - state actors or otherwise.
That's the math. You can't be mad at me for reading statistics.
Something a little new...
Working on a project called Everysetup. I want to capture the ways folks are working, the tools they love etc.

@Daojoan Sounds a bit like https://usesthis.com, if you've not heard of it?

I realise this isn't an original thought but what is with the things we have to do all of the time. Once again I must make dinner. Every day. Relentless. Have a shower, brush my teeth, go to the toilet. Why can't we just do it once a week and be free to live our lives. Or once a year. Like sorting out road tax. Sorry I can't come to work today it's my toilet day. It seems insanity to me we have to brush clean a bit of our skeleton twice a day. None of the rest of it needs brushing. I don't want to make dinner. I have no inspiration. The Muse has deserted me. Can I just put two whole onions in the microwave for 20 minutes? Here you go, kids. Here's your hot onion. You have to peel it yourself - isn't that fun!
@TheBreadmonkey Clearly you were not raised with this informing your childhood https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joy_of_Cooking
Embrace it Ben. The skeleton washing and all of the rest too. ♥️ or become one of those soylent bros looking to efficiency everything to tereaform the moon because they've given up on earth. There is no in between.
@David I still remember people saying the same about NFTs. We all know how that ended.
@matt_birchler hope the trains are okay 🥺
@nileane @matt_birchler This is why cars are better.
The Inhuman League
You were a picture of a sloptress in a sloptail bar,
When we marked you.
You were tricked out slop that got shook up and fucked all around
And then turned into something ‘new’
Quintillion steps later on, we've pumped the world with more heat
While saying that we’re the good guys too
But don’t forget it’s us who put the watermark on you
And we can just remove it too…
apparently there are Japanese books about implementing ActivityPub now
the cover art is cute!
