@jbz asking for permission to include “vibeslopping” into my personal dictionary.

Ancient ‘Who owns Linux?’ case now has one foot very deep in the grave
「 The long legal battle over ownership of Linux is closer than ever to ending, after a panel of three judges ruled a claim against IBM and Red Hat isn’t valid, and that time has expired for further action 」
What are some good heavy metal songs about time for a playlist to go along with the new issue of the zine?

@AnarchoNinaWrites This pleases me. If a bank doesn't hate you, are you even trying? ;)

ImageMagick ... nooooooooo!! :(
It feels like I only just figured out how to shrink image
sizes w/o looking it up :P
Thx for the pointer to the GraphicsMagick one, i'll check that out.

ImageMagick has been a part of my personal toolkit for *years*. I'm excited by a tool reported to be more consistent, faster, and made by people.
@LabSpokane The midterms are about congress (and various state and local offices). There’s fortunately no modern history of either branch of congress failing to recognize election outcomes and seating actual certified winners. That could change, but it’s not something that there’s any reason to believe will happen this year.
@mattblaze Maybe. When I see Hakeem Jeffries apparently colluding with Jared Kushner, it feels like the situation has materially changed. For the much worse.
Did we just invade the wrong country?

Goodnight my dear friends

Jack Conte promoting the transformation of patreon into social media (uh but not like those other ones though, somehow) by using the word "enshittification" should, imo, put that term to rest. it's dead. it's been fully recuperated by capital and startup culture, vampirically drained of vitality.
@AnarchoNinaWrites Vance called Canada "a state" and then immediately said that was a Freudian slip.
Like, buddy, that's not Freudian slips work...
He basically admitted that the US government already considers it a foregone conclusion that Canada will become a state.
@mattblaze I know you're liberal with the block button but, I dare a response:
If your plan was to #vote by mail, it's time to alter that plan, if you're in #Texas and under 65.
It's nearly impossible to successfully vote by mail in this state UNLESS you have the 65+ excuse. Ask me how I know.
Today's ruling didn't change that, but it's a good enough reason to STRONGLY prefer early voting or election day voting. Even if you're 66 years old. If you need a ride, let me know.
@todb I understand about Texas. As I said, today's ruling shouldn't alter anyone's plan for how they should vote, but there may be other considerations in particular states.
Now that the dust has settled on the Canada US trade breakdown, it turns to us, Canadians everywhere, to take the next steps. If Prime Minister Carney characterizes this as a war, then we become the soldiers. Our weapons are not rifles and drones but wallets and credit cards. Our strategic objective: as complete a boycott of US products and services as possible.
Fortunately, we’ve been in training now for months. And we’re getting damn good at this. We know the drill. We’ve been meticulously choosing Canadian-made products at our local stores. We pester their owners to provide ever more Canadian choices and clearer labelling. We’ve avoided travel south of the border. We’re finding alternatives for online services. So our tactical objective is to continue on, to double down, to strengthen the resolve.
To arms! To elbows!

The Story of Bottled Water (2010) (short documentary on environmental impact of bottled water)
This is my second favorite octopus story (that they can use coconuts as armor)
My favorite one is that some octopus lead groups of fish in hunting together, and punch the fish that act up
