One critique, though. I wish he'd knock off the (mostly pretend/affectation) schtick about running over time. It's a really bad message to send at a conference. Running over is incredibly disrespectful of the next speakers and conference organizers who are trying to keep things running.
@mattblaze Having been on the receiving end of a presenter running (sometimes significantly over time) it is a cardinal sin, as it disrupts all other speakers following that session
The reason I am an intensional type theorist is that I use computers. I want the means to negotiate the division of labour between humans and computers in a way which is precise. I have no truck with either explicable drudgery or inexplicable magic. That which is systematic should be a system. That which is not systematic should not be a system.
I live by the perspicuous effectiveness and good taste of the disappointing accidents I choose to engineer. Philosophy alone will not tell us what to do.
Pirate: look at me, I'm the captain now.
Me: oh thank god, ok look sir it doesn't look too good: we've been boarded by pirates.
I'm currently focusing on religious studies and diving into the doctrines of my denomination of Buddhism.
What makes Shin Buddhism different from other forms of Buddhism, etc.
Interestingly, the more I learn about my chosen tradition, the more I find I agree with it. The issues that I have with some aspects of Buddhism seem to be addressed in my particular school.
And, to be very clear, it is a feature of Buddhism and especially now in our current day and age that we have access to various schools and traditions and we can find one (or a combination honestly) that fits our needs best.
I stumbled across this 40min episode from an interfaith religious docuseries where a prominent priest in my national organization - The Buddhist Churches of America, Rev Jerry Hirano, was interviewed.
Not only is it a really solid intro to Jodo Shinshu Buddhism, but it also dived into its approach to the dharma and how it fits in with other schools and even other religions within the US. He goes into our current and historical approaches to gender and sexuality and other aspects as well.
This was recorded six years ago and even a short mention of the political reality in America was being discussed then. The reverend putting the current events into the context of throwing the Japanese Americans into concentration camps in WWII, then the backlash against Muslims after 9/11, and today the violence within the regime (6 years ago) that has lead to ICE roundups of today is harrowing.
I think I'm starting to settle into my faith and understanding. Starting to embrace it more deeply.
(...not me considering going to seminary and becoming a priest in my old age, lol!... but dang...)
5/ Just got off the phone with the vet caring for Charlene. She's very, very sick with a white blood cell count of 116,000, a slightly elevated liver count and a very tender belly.
She's not sure if parasites are to blame, after all and is sending a sample to an outside lab for testing with results in a couple days.
Right now, she's on IV fluids for dehydration and vitamin B12 and a pain reliever for Charlene's stomach.
She's coming home later this afternoon with meds and a special food. Would appreciate your prayers and good vibes, please. 💜
Two neo-Nazi teens arrested in #Florida with weapons, explosive materials, white supremacist literature, and tactical gear with slogans such as "1488" that resembled previous mass far-Right killings such as that of Brenton Tarrant, who killed over 50 people at a mosque in New Zeeland.

Addressing the claim that America was built by “hardworking people” by reminding everyone that America was *actually* built on the backs of enslaved Africans and on the genocide of Indigenous people.
This headline is misleading; the Court didn't "clear the way" for the vote-by-mail restrictions executive order, but rather dismissed one of two lower court injunctions currently blocking it, on relatively narrow procedural grounds. The court hasn't yet ruled directly on the legality of the EO's substance.
For all my #gardening folks out there, don't do that! Not...at...all...alright?
IT have sent an email informing the office the outage has been rectified.
If you are still offline, you should submit a ticket.
How you are supposed to do that if your computer is not connecting to the network in order to be able to access the ticketing platform is not elaborated on.
@MattHatton yesterday I bought a new pair of scissors because I had none, but I couldn’t open the packet without a pair of scissors.
The Trade Rep for Canada, Minister LeBlanc just said he's not going to be concerned about what an official says... “on a US Social network”.
Interesting choice of words. Is there a mind shift happening?
Now might be the time to strike and remind your local, provincial and federal politicians that there are *CANADIAN* social networks *today*.
There are spaces they can join, and even that they can create.
It's time to ramp up the Canadian #Fediverse and #OpenSocialWeb!

*valley girl voice*: i must, like, not fear. fear is *literally* the mind-killer. like it’s basically the little-death that brings total obliteration. i will *totally* face my fear. i will permit it to pass over me and through me, and? when it’s gone? i'm gonna like turn the inner eye to see its path! where the fear has gone there will be *literally* nothing. only i will remain.
Cliff’s brilliance as a hacker is self-evident. But his brilliance as a storyteller is a bit deceptive. He makes it look like the spontaneous, incoherent ravings of a deranged madman. But every word is actually a perfectly crafted step on a path he’s guiding you down.

@mcourcel Burnout it seems. @mckensie @Winelectronic101

When did you last eat a nutrition bar?
@evan A what?
Granola bars and fig bars: iffy
Lemon bars and maple bars: right out
@evan Kind bars are basically inside-out chocolate bars.
Making it easier to see the peanuts doesn’t make it less full of sugar.
Filing under “granola bars.”
