Same person whom I helped with the XBox + new card thing had another problem: they have that Google Family Link thing on their kids' devices, and when the kids want to buy stuff from the play store, or in-game, they need approval from the parent.
So far so good, this worked fine for a good while, but in recent months, the approval stopped appearing at its usual place. They went to the parent's Google Play, notifications had nothing, and the "Budget & History" page showed past approvals, but did not show the requests.
Parents have Google accounts, tied to a GMail address, so it's not even a case of "lol, your accoun't ain't real google, fuck off".
After much trial and error, we discovered the problem: notifications were blocked for Google Play & Google Play Services on parent's phones. Once we unblocked those, the approval requests came in: both as push notifications, and when viewing "Budget & History" from the web, there too.
And I have questions1. Why do you need to enable notifications on a phone device to see approval requests in a desktop browser?
I still don't, I know the answer. ↩︎
Apropos Google Play. Apparently, you can add kids' cards to Google Wallet, and then they can pay in shops and stuff with their phone, and the parent will see the spend.
What they can't do is pay online, at all, not even with the caveat that it'd require approval.
To let kids buy stuff online, with their own cards, the way to do that is to add the card to the family payment options, then when the kid requests approval, choose their card as the payment option when approving it.
Very straightforward, very discoverable.

Is it actually possible to ensure, through long-term planning and careful organization, that a#solareclipse is experienced as a #totaleclipse without being hindered by clouds? Yes, it is possible, specifically by organizing a voyage, such as the one aboard the #Cruiseship #LeBoréal linked below.

@lritter i think it worked because every generation experienced the same events and history timeline ...but now that changed imho
@serapath it's only ever been US centric anyway; and that worked before the internet because then you could consider a country's culture reasonably isolated.

@craiggrannell with camera stuff, it’s generally “here’s all the tools and data to do what you need to do but you’re on your own to implement it”
@BenRiceM Yeah, I didn’t imagine there would be a great deal of help. It’ll be interesting to see how things fall. If Apple ends up going with “actually, there’s now a whole new thing to support with this one device”, I do wonder how many devs will jump in, given how hostile the company has been towards app creators of late. It’s not like the Fold will be the top-selling iPhone.
