“Unfortunately, if you are on a machine that’s been issued by your workplace, you should expect that there’s some type of monitoring,” EFF’s @htsuka told @AssociatedPress. https://apnews.com/article/employer-surveillance-bossware-tracking-workplace-7d61e74242b872457bbfcf2223f9ebd5
delighted to discover that a) Jimothy has a Wikipedia picture and b) it's this
Today I took the decision to leave MacStories.
Your interest in this decision may vary wildly but I thought it best to explain why.
When Federico invited me to join MacStories back in 2023, it was as much of a surpise as it was an honour. I'd long been a reader of the site and like many really enjoyed the unique way he and John wrote about Apple and tech. I've enjoyed every moment with MacStories, especially getting to know the many awesome Club members, write the yearly watchOS reviews, cover WWDC with @devondundee while Ticci and John were 'on the ground', and starting my podcast, @flepodcast.
Which is why I was so upset and saddened to find out MacStories, Ticci, and John had returned to X. To be clear, I wasn't involved in the decision and would have voiced my strong opposition if I had been.
For me, X has long been the rubicon I won't cross. Elon is a Nazi who has allowed Nazi views to propegate his platform along with non-consensual nudes, often involving children, and much more - I'm sure we all know his rap sheet by now. My view is, if you're posting and contributing to X, you're elevating the hate Elon stands for. There can be no excuses.
I feel that it's important to stick to your principles, especially when it's not easy, so for me to carry on writing for MacStories, as much as I love doing so, would be to contradict those principles.
I hold out hope that Ticci and John change their minds, but I'll always be grateful to them for this opportunity.
Finally, I’m sad to be leaving like this, but to everyone who's read my work over the last 3 years, thank you. I'll be around here doing other stuff so do still say hi!

"Someone walked up to a roadside camera in Irmo, South Carolina with a can of expanding foam sealant and coated the lens. No hoodie, no laptop — just a hardware store solution to a Flock problem. The choice of weapon is almost funny."
@igd_news There is another problem: Flock Drones
@kimlockhartga Now it’s blueberries?? WTF? They don’t want us to eat healthy, do they?
@farah I really don't know what to do. In many cases, even cooking our fruit won't protect us.
@mathew @smeschmesch yes, it’s not and was never a medical term, just as shitfaced isn’t
of course it's not a medical term. "Spatzenhirn" isn't either and it's still ableist.
the brain is not "like a the brain of a hare" and therefore bad/broken/deficient.
still ableist. still wrong.
here is a silly lil picture of my plush mastodon 😊 #plushtodon
I don’t particularly want to cry but I just want to lie down in bed and not do anything. Is this depression?
My depression(?) often feels like being tired, fwiw.
Mastodon/Fedi is the social network for people who read the encyclopedia for fun as a kid 🤔
Yeah I'm a contributor to the linux kernel*
*some of my code was scraped to make the LLM thats vibe-coding the kernel these days
I wrote a bit about Zalgo, the glitchy text you sometimes see. I wanted to explain not what it is in the meme/lore sense, but how it is constructed, and why is it even possible to construct it.

Age Verification schemes come with a wealth of privacy, security, and access issues. ZKP’s aren’t going to solve any of them, they just kick the problem down the road. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2026/08/zkps-arent-age-verification-silver-bullets
@hipsterelectron @daemonspudguy @zzt @c0dec0dec0de Yeah, fair.
Right now I'm poking at that list because I host my website on OpenBSD and had been converting the server to a tilde of sorts, but the inclusion of LLM-assisted code in OpenBSD's tmux package has got me considering whether to scrap everything and switch to another OS altogether.
@lykso @daemonspudguy @zzt @c0dec0dec0de there's someone who forked freebsd to retain 32-bit support and reject the slop so be aware of those options as well
