Many have asked: "Ok, this sounds great, how on earth do we get there?"
From the few conversations I have now had: no single project believes they will ever have enough capacity to do browser dev v.s. patch work.
And no one will commit to exploration without some assurance that the base will receive long-term active development.
Absent some leap of faith, it's likely up to a new project to commit to building that base, and getting it to a stage where those projects feel like it can happen.

first of all, what a remarkably specific commit description. second of all, that's not worth a ChangeLog entry. third, it's not named LICENSE?
i didn't peruse the whole contents of the LICENCE file because the file being 300 pages long and under a nonstandard filename without symlinks tells me that this is an incredibly politically motivated project. i wonder if that means they're left-wing!

I don't think that is the most efficient way of bootstrapping this thing - given the amount of effort these projects are already expending purging the same garbage functionality from Firefox release after release I think there is a world where a joint effort results in more-capacity (especially if committing to developing that base independently after a point)
But I have no way of proving that, and thus a new project might be the only practical way of bootstrapping this thing.
Based on the response to my thread yesterday, and the fact that I have been having conversations along this line for a year I really believe that there is demand for such a thing (and IME with doing non-profit dev work for the better part of the last decade: demand is not uncorrelated with the ability to long term fund a thing).
People want free and independent browsers, unencumbered with non-consensual bullshit, built by humans.

That's a really good point, and it touches on Altemeyer: that authoritarians perceive a social norm as an aggression because it reminds them that they aren't the one who created that norm, and that suggests to them that they're the outgroup, which is intolerable.
Honestly I go back and forth on "cyberpunk media would be so good if it incorporated proper sociology" and "cyberpunk media would never be published if it incorporated proper sociology." Both are probably true. As a genre, possibly more than any other, it did not survive the audience's desire to identify with a powerful badass.

Growth is not good any more than greed is good.
Growth isn't bad, as usual, it depends.
The problem with people fixated on growth is that they are like those who run a business based on a spreadsheet. That's stupidity because no worthwhile endeavour can be modelled in a few numbered columns, people are involved.
Good growth improves everyone's lives, not just a few owners and those who see it as all about the bottom line.
Better than #growth is #sustainability, because it benefits everyone.

I share the concern about provenance, citation, and scholarly integrity. Those principles remain essential. My own experience, however, has been that AI can also function as a cognitive partner rather than a substitute for sources. When used to compare ideas, identify assumptions, and stimulate metacognition—while continually returning to original works such as Polanyi, Dreyfus, and Klein—it can deepen rather than diminish scholarship. Perhaps the central question is not whether AI belongs in scholarship, but what practices ensure that it supports understanding instead of replacing it?
