Which Global Superpower do you trust most to maintain a mutual peace and invest in a sustainable future?
BBC #iPlayer's Elon The Next Chapter is very good. They don't go deeply into the dark side of #ElonMusk but it is hard to ignore.
I think Elon fans should watch this too.
I felt so badly for the lady who sold her house to become part of the Elon cult, with a man who does not care about others in the least at its heart. What will her future be in 10 yrs? At the end it seems clear, the man is a menace with charisma.
Use Tor or VPN if outside UK, it's worth the effort: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m002wngr/the-elon-musk-show-the-next-chapter
Rude.
Take heart... Even the dumbest in the Fedi are more likely to survive this than your average online rando.
@resl lmao did me some infighting earlier, glad to hear it
Windows' Classic 3D Space Cadet Pinball Is Getting a Physical Re-Creation https://games.slashdot.org/story/26/05/26/2053218/windows-classic-3d-space-cadet-pinball-is-getting-a-physical-re-creation?utm_source=rss1.0mainlinkanon
i say "if there is sufficient information", but the reproducible builds evangelism strike force team doesn't think that way. their modus operandi is to repeatedly neg maintainers to make extremely confusing and subtle modifications to their release process for all their users.
it would only be necessary to change the build process for all users if the reproducible builds squadron believed very very deeply that the maintainer's build output is the ground truth for everyone else to reproduce.
.........which brings us to the issue at hand for the kernel.
for a representative example of how the reproducible builds evangelism strike force approaches maintainers, consider this representative example, where an arch linux package maintainer posts to the bug report mailiing list for gnu automake https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-automake/2025-08/msg00000.html
In Arch Linux our automake package includes
/usr/share/doc/automake/amhello-1.0.tar.gz. When we rebuild this package using our rebuilder to check for reproduciblity the uid/gid and timestamps are not normalized
- the arch linux package build system orchestrates the build process,
- the arch linux automake package decides to include extraneous test data in the output,
- the arch linux 'reproducibility" checker does not automatically zero out fields that are known to induce non-matching checksums,
.........so arch linux files a "bug" against automake.
@decay so long, fsckers! i rev up the spindle motors on my 15k rpm SCSI dsik array and create a huge cloud of smoke. when the cloud dissipates im laying there totally kernel panicked on the pavement
@matt @draeand @nolan One problem with Speech Dispatcher versus NVDA Controller or the JAWS COM API is that it won't use Orca's speech rate and it’s less obvious for users how to change the default Speech Dispatcher speech rate, since you have to edit speechd.conf. There have been a few users confused about this for Minecraft Access. But at least it’s better than on MacOS, where there's no way to make AVSpeechSynthesizer use either VoiceOver's speech rate or the speech rate set in speech settings. In Minecraft Access I had to add a speech rate setting to the settings just for MacOS, because that is the only way the user can set it.

The 1-page rule: a plan that doesn’t fit on a single page might be a lot of things, but it’s not a plan.
A couple decades ago I caught a few Barenaked Ladies shows in Massachusetts, and one of the things they had going even back in the aughts was a setup to record and master the entire show to 320kbps MP3 straight from the board mix, slicing it into individual song files and populating the ID3 tags along the way, so by the time the encore was over and people were starting to slowly head towards the doors, they were duplicating a “golden master” USB stick of that night’s show as MP3s across a couple dozen USB ports simultaneously, over and over, ready to sell them to folks leaving for like ten bucks or whatever.
Enjoy the show? Take it home with you. Enjoy it again.
Seems so simple, yeah? That’s the tell: simple’s good, y’all.
@djsundog Oh the sweet sweet irony when Metallica did this when I took my son to see them in 2019.

Looking for recommendations to establish, update and use a local copy of Wikipedia; interested mostly in a single language but if I have space, why not others 🙂
It seems like this will be a good archival effort, as per https://mastodon.social/@JakeOrlowitz/116642070621496950
@yojimbo Kiwix is what I use, and it works reasonably well.
