Honestly though, I think binary definitions have gotten us into this mess. Some men can present with PMOS symptoms. It’s rare, but it happens. Sex, like gender, is not necessarily binary. Intersex is a thing.
And there are women like me, born female, presents female, has all the attributes of female, yet still producing enough male hormones that I might fail tests if I were still competing in gymnastics. It also explains why I was so powerful as a gymnast. I would bet money that for example, Mary Lou Retton has pcos, she and I had the same body and power. (She was a lot better, and I competed back when power was not a good attribute for female competitors. We were supposed to be tiny little girls in bathing suits, not powerhouses who could deadlift their entire team. Heh.)

so, it's worth reconsidering whether blame needs to be a bad word. it can be reframed as responsibility. in addition to making it harder for contributors to make mistakes, we also have to consider how to limit the ability of contributors to harm users. this encourages more forms of direct democracy, instead of hyperspecialization and hierarchy as seen in the linux codebase
ideally, a microkernel should also help to reduce the scale of the project to make it possible to be familiar enough with most of the code to review others' work

Polycystic ovary syndrome (#PCOS) was officially renamed Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (#PMOS) on May 12, 2026,. This change, published in The #Lancet and announced at the European Congress of Endocrinology, followed a rigorous 14-year global consensus process. The update aims to reduce stigma, improve diagnosis, and accurately reflect the condition's complex, multi-system nature beyond just the ovaries.
This is huge news for women, as it’s estimated that up to a third of women experience some PMOS symptoms. The previous nomenclature meant that many women were not being diagnosed correctly. As a matter of #bioethics of women’s treatment, this is a big sea change. As to how it changes medical professional’s approach, we will have to determine.
