i have spent perhaps more time than advisable to establish a paper trail for the events which resulted in unilateral censorship of all images of stalin across english wikipedia https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Abzeronow#c-Lcdrovers-20260512162100-you_have_closed_a_discussion_with_critical_open_questions_remaining._the_policy
If you're interested in learning more about implementations of resistance in this era of unchecked Big AI, direct action strategies and the techno-politics therein, be sure to check out ASRG's site (https://algorithmic-sabotage.gitlab.io/asrg/) and give them a follow here on Mastodon ( @asrg).
They've put a lot of heartbeats and neurons - human stuff - into this area.
I think you mean the former?
@jonhendry OMG I initially had the ball pit person first and switched it. Totally my fault. Definitely the former! Thanks for calling attention to that. I'll go edit it!

It’s always nice when someone writes to say thank you for something you’ve done or created instead of just reading gripes or complaints. Just got a really nice email saying thanks for the latest update of Linea.
Today would be a great day to send a note of thanks to someone who makes something you love or enjoy. A little positivity goes a long way. 👍🖖
imagine, if journalists knew what they were writing about, how public discourse could be smarter

Not on Mastodon, but there is another Fediverse platform called GoToSocial which does allow you to adjust who can reply. More info at https://fedi.tips/gotosocial-safe-and-lightweight/
@FediTips Much appreciated.
@juergen_hubert to put it into the words that might have been spoken by Terry Pratchett.

Let's find out how to get predictable IPv6 addresses assigned to OpenBSD VMs
Florian Obser (florian@) recently gave a
BSD-NL

entitled
"Let's find out how to get predictable IPv6 addresses assigned to OpenBSD VMs".
Florian takes us on a guided tour of how inet6 autoconf actually works, with enlightening and entertaining peeks into selected piece of OpenBSD source.
At the end, we are asked to "now, draw the rest of the owl".
Slides are available in the usual place, and video is also available.

Holding tech companies accountable is exactly what we are doing, and will do more of.
Check out our deep-dive on this topic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nEaEsJRENPE&t=2s
Except that isn’t! You are actively assisting big tech with this move.
Asking children and adults to identify themselves online isn't holding big tech companies responsible!
Verifying who everyone is with government ids is not a solution. It’s a massive data breach waiting to happen.
You are enabling much much more harm to children and everyone using the internet by pushing this narrative of verification.

@lina The computer built in webcams aren’t that terribly good either afaik.
Sounds like it’s software more than hardware.
Ever tried lowering the quality from the camera through software to see how “bad” it can get before it stops working well enough? <— no practical reason for this, just curious, don’t burn a lot of time on my behalf :)
@yon Recent Mac webcams are actually using the same sensors and processing as some iPhone front cams!
Resolution wise, the face tracking uses a tiny 128x128 crop, so you don't need much. I'm running the webcam at 640x480 here, and it's just about right for sitting a fair distance away from the laptop without losing face bounding box quality (my face is larger than 128 pixels across in the frame).
A good webcam helps with low light performance though. That's important unless you have consistently good lighting.
