@rcosta @blogdiva After 18th century ? I didn't know that. I do remember the so called Galileo affair which was indeed before that. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galileo_Galilei#Later_Church_reassessments
@regendans @rcosta @blogdiva they did come back from that…the modern incarnation of the Vatican Observatory is Jesuit-run https://www.vaticanobservatory.org/sacred-space-astronomy/jesuits-and-the-vatican-observatory/
(there is a historian of science on here who will tear you a new one about the nuances of the Galileo affair but, for your sake, I am not paging him lol)

Little did I know that it was an educational toy.
@sjvn And then came USB-C. A connector with a whole host of possibilities and no markings. Just today, I was asked again why the USB-C monitor can’t be plugged into the front of the docking station – the connector fits, after all. Yes, but it’s not Thunderbolt.
Or why is my USB-C to C charging cable so slow at transferring data? Well, it’s only USB 2.0

@TheBreadmonkey It's definitely one of their best songs but I'm not sure I even like that anymore.
Too many listens? Or did I miss something terrible that Muse did?
Tomorrow, I am going to break my perfect streak so far this year of "not driving for work".
I can either drive for 3 hours, or take 6 hours with a combination of cycling and the train.
Annoying, but that's a big difference :(
@neil unfortunately the trainlines in this country tend to be based around travel to or from London, with one a few cross country lines.
I recently took a train back from Glasgow. The route included four different trains, 3 of which had an eventual destination of London.
Getting to, say, Milton Keynes is a 1 hour drive each way or near 2.5 hours each way by public transport, including walking and multiple trains.

@zeppe @buzz @enverdemichelis muoio 😂
Let me tell you, Wes Streeting is absofuckinglutely not the guy to save Labour!
That guy? The "I ignore science and am a raging transphobe who only cares about the cis white G in the Alphabet Mafia." THAT GUY?!?!?!
@alexisbushnell He will definitely destroy Labour entirely if they make him leader.
Outstanding. Canada is far too deferential to the Americans, far too dependent on them for military hardware. We’d do better not only to buy elsewhere, but to develop domestically. The Avro Arrow was killed because its mission disappeared—but Canada’s military aviation industry was dismantled at the same time, to appease the USA. Adopting #Rafale or #Gripen with generous industrial offsets, would begin to correct that historical blunder.

This is just one exercise, but a really interesting story...

In computer science, a famous problem is whether "P = NP," i.e., whether production = non-production. The answer is yes, because YOLO.
@ajroach42 Jesus h that’s amazing!!
@nabeards The machine is really incredible to watch. Multiple tool heads, so it just pops on and off.
@michael The old adage:
Everyone has a test environment.
Some are fortunate enough to have a SEPARATE production environment.
UK’s free museums are in trouble. Should tourists start paying?
Visitors to London’s galleries and museums can see some of the finest artworks in the world without paying a penny – but for how much longer? The Independent explores the fraught debate about who should foot the bill for keeping them free of charge.

@nixzhu I'm sorry that's what you are forced to depend on. Enjoy it before SpaceX starts Kessler Syndrome, I guess?
@sundogplanets If the Kessler Syndrome actually triggers, we’ll just have to launch a fleet of specialized 'cleaner satellites' to clear the debris field and restore the orbit.
Fossil fuel turbine sellers are having to revamp their ENTIRE manufacturing process to meet demand from data centres. But sure, tell me about how this is just a normal little industry......
