Actually, here’s what I really think is lacking: a hide post moderation option in Mastodon.
Instead of deleting posts, moderators should be able to hide posts.
Posts that are hidden by moderators should keep their place in the timeline but state publicly that they were hidden by moderators.
(Servers other than the originating server must treat hidden posts as otherwise deleted and remove their local cache of the content. This is no different to the existing social contact for federated deletes.)
The server should also clearly communicate to the person in question (this can be automated) that their post has been hidden and that they can challenge the decision via regular channels by filing an appeal. (And, if they don’t like the moderation, they can move to a different server, etc., as per usual.)
That would feel much better to me than deleting a post outright and it can be combined with a moderation policy that promises not to delete or edit other people’s posts.
It would also allow for an appeal process and the possible reinstatement of a post should it be found that a moderation error has occurred.

@aral @staff @haubles I like what you describe as a default option and process.
I do think, though, that moderators/admins should reserve the right to use deletion for content that is illegal or a massive violation of terms of service. If someone posts CSAM, for instance, I don’t think you as an admin *want that on your server*. That kind of vile stuff needs to be removed, in my opinion. If I operated an instance (I don’t), I would want to do that.

if you didn't publish in wet lab biology in 2018 maybe the LLM assault on science is confusing to you but i did a paper in one of the hottest labs in the world with plenty of pub experience and they spent two years after i left getting it published because the paper is obviously groundbreaking in three distinct ways. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30413431/
people whose actual job is publishing papers said it mystified them. that itself is a data point indicating that falsification and corpo deskilling is not just artificial but recent and accelerating.
this was all before twitter inc too lmao

@Taweret that's it pawning off the task of building the thing on some subagent, so the LLM is telling another LLM to build an app based on a voice memo of ow-aw-ow-ow-aw-ow-ow-ow, which it has decided is a work order management app. to be fair it did say "idk what this audio is," and it took some coaxing to not just make it give up, but this is where it got to eventually.
@Taweret so it's sort of a bust because the thing doesn't have a builtin audio feature, but i am going to see if i can coax it into thinking it's a real language that it can understand
Released Sapphire 0.8.0 with a few big improvements - abstract classes, structural interfaces, match expressions, and Ruby-style modules.
Also improved the error messages and changed super syntax to be more similar to how it behaves in #Ruby.
Spoke to Beata Olsson, Denise O’Sullivan and Gareth Taylor about Liverpool’s season, how they have turned it around and how they now find themselves two wins away from a trophy. #lfc ✍️

@quinta E adesso far girare Deepseek v4 Flash in locale e' possibile (grazie a Salvatore Sanfiilippo - antirez, Redis). Su MacBook con 128GB di RAM almeno. Per ora. 1 minuto circa per la compattazione, pare, ma ci siamo.

@ricmac Deze AI ppl so smat!
you can't own the data, you can't parameterize their charts, they literally only support obsolete and discredited tools like t-SNE which literally just falsifies data (i shit you not. dimensionality reduction is fake but this one also adds noise cause it looks sciencey. first time i ever found a citation loop for a quantitative claim relied upon everywhere to do science. it would not be the last time)
