Are age gates the solution to the internet's problems? Or are they a new system of control? We're explaining why social media bans can't sidestep the Constitution on our EFFector Podcast. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2026/05/californias-terrible-no-good-very-bad-social-media-ban-effector-389

Hey I’m the developer of the Bazaar App Store! I absolutely love making Bazaar, it brings me a lot of joy. :)
Unfortunately I’m in a bad financial situation right now and my only source of income is from donations. I absolutely hate asking for money but it’s been kind of rough for me lately, so if you happen to enjoy my work and can comfortably toss me a coin, I would be extremely appreciative: https://ko-fi.com/kolunmi
Thanks so much!! Boosts appreciated <3
Big foot doesn't believe in humans

I remember when we had to get terrible dating advice from humans, actual flesh-and-blood humans. It was a long time ago, but son, we made real bullshit in this land once upon a time.
Some new #faircamp development insights: Faircamp 2.0 will come with an overhauled documentation system – not just in terms of content, but also usability-wise.
The most notable additions will be an interactive search (fully local), an "On this page" table of contents for each page (direly needed for a better overview of the manifest options I think :)), Copy to clipboard functionality for each manifest snippet, and (not visible in the screenshot) access to documentation for previous releases (meaning: when 2.1+ is eventually out and you're still running the 2.0 editor, the documentation links in the graphical interface will still take you to the 2.0 documentation online \o/).
Also: Technically the documentation could (already) be packaged with faircamp releases (it's only ~400kB, uncompressed), allowing for offline documentation access, I just don't have the time resources to adapt packaging for this right now. '^^ (but this will come eventually!)

iPhone 18 release date just got new evidence of delay, per leak https://9to5mac.com/2026/05/05/iphone-18-release-date-just-got-new-evidence-of-delay-per-leak/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=mastodon
@9to5Mac is it delayed or is this a planned change to launch cycles, one that we’ve been hearing about since before the 17 line up.
@octothorpe I think they just got high sniffing their own farts at that WWDC keynote.
The important point is though, even when they become overburdening or make mistakes, eventually they listen to their customers.
@thomasfuchs I guess. I have zero research to support my position, but I’m not sure they do any more than any other average company. There are plenty of instances where they very specifically did not do what the customers wanted, or, they did it only after so much incessant and loud feedback they were forced to confront it… or indeed, comply with the law.
We (Apple users) do however, hold Apple to a different standard than we do other companies, and over time gave them a lot of social capital.
Oh I can!

Is there a way to fundraise for my surgery without doxing myself? I would prefer not to give out my full real name to do a GoFundMe since I do have haters because of EG and I'd rather not have to expose myself to being doxed because I need to afford surgery ):
@thomasfuchs This is true, even if their incentive to do so is market-driven (they're a hardware company; data mining their users' PII beyond things like "tracking app store purchases" just doesn't have benefit outweighing risk).
@mark Perhaps, but they designed their business this way on purpose and by choice; so it's not an accident or a law of nature that it is this way.
(To be entirely fair, in some quarters their services business is starting to rival their hardware revenue. They're still seeing the light in long-term customer relationships though.)

@ZachWeinersmith
Brilliant!
i personally always found the "real name" stuff to be annoying online b/c like more people know me as "Ami Angelwings" than as any other name tbh, and I've been "Ami Angelwings" longer than I've even had my legal name
and I've never not been Ami Angelwings, it's more consistent than my RL name tbh (of which I have like a Chinese name and a middle name that I sometimes go by), so people who are like "you're hiding behind a disposable screen name!" no I'm not, like you can find everything you want about my entire internet history under Ami Angelwings, the only reason to know my real name is to hurt me
