@podfeet @richardgunther wait until he finds out about midday drinking 😎
This is a tough read, but an important one: the attacks on the open web are not abstract anymore. https://www.anildash.com/2026/03/27/endgame-open-web/
This reminds me of an observation I once saw about the difference between racism in the North versus the South in America.
In the north, they don’t mind a Black boss but don’t want Black neighbors. In the south, they don’t mind Black neighbors but would die before they have a Black boss.
The corrupt Roberts Court just wiped out what was left of the Voting Rights Act. It was a purely partisan/ideological ruling, and will reverberate for decades to come as it frees the Republican Party to keep racism at the core of its beliefs, and operations.

Just in case you missed it!
Been pleasantly surprised by how many people also bought copies of Sawyer Lee. We're just about 45 days from launch and I'm very nervous for it, because I would like to do more of them.
@ZachWeinersmith Funny to misread "45 days from launch" and "do more of them" to be about babies instead of kickstarter/comics.
Many machines come with a builtin software or hardware terminal for GRUB to use instead of implementing its own! So today I'm studying the simpler of GRUB's machine-specific terminal drivers.
To output a char on Xen-emulated machines until there's space in a ringbuffer it spinlocks (via a helper) on Xen's event-channel before writing enqueueing it, saves some sort of timestamp, & unsets a flag. Memory barriers surround the ringbuffer manipulations.
Chars are read at an incremented index.

On UBoot machines GRUB reads a input char via the TSTC & & GETC system calls, whilst it outputs using the PUTC system call.
Both the Xen & UBoot drivers are subclasses of the terminfo driver, even if for some reason the UBoot drivers includes some trivial wrappers the other subclasses don't.
There's a helper initializer for PCI serial terminals, by iterating over PCI devices with a callback that retrieves/validates each device's data & inits a corresponding NS8250 serial driver.

Coucou les gens !!
some people here are like 'i'm color blind i don't know what color anyone is'
well maybe you are the problem
'color blindness' is wilful racism
The alternative to using a DAF is to donate directly to a charity. But there are advantages - to both the donor and the charity - to using a DAF. Not all charities are equipped to efficiently process non-cash assets like stocks, and they don't need to issue individual tax receipts for donations from DAFs. For the donor, you can bundle donations into a single tax year and parcel it out later.
But all these advantages are for naught if they refuse to send money to your preferred charities.
Background: The Trump DoJ is claiming that the SPLC's use of paid informants inside organizations like the Klan is somehow a fraud against its donors. I'm a donor. This is exactly the kind of work I WANT to support. Which is why I tried to make an additional donation.
Since the CopyFail disclosure left some of us feeling a little...unsupported, we're talking about what we love to see in vulnerability disclosures. Come join the conversation!

Do you think of LLMs came out in, say 2003, the major players would've allowed nsfw mode? Like to my knowledge there was never serious pushback on search engines indexing basically anything legal, even if it was deeply offensive. Is that a culture shift or is it more about how an LLM feels like a human being, rather than a mindless indexer.
Black woman: Black people don’t feel comfortable on Mastodon and Bluesky!!
Everyone else: here’s why you’re wrong and I know better than you!
Honestly some of y’all sound like the ‘I have one minority friend and they say it’s okay for me to say X’ type of people
How is @mczachurski doing these days.
@gh05t Doing well overall - quite busy with work and ideas, but moving forward step by step. How about you?
This rate of change in methane gas use is insane.
25% decrease in one year.
"That growth in battery capacity managed to shift about three times as much power from the daytime...It has caused the need for gas-fired generation to drop by more than a quarter from the same time last year"
Australia's summer saw the daw...
@quillmatiq @imanijoy Yaaaaay!
A couple of the talks I highlighted on my blog include those from @chrisjrn, @MaggieFero, @amcasari, and @phildini
They directly or indirectly seemed connected to my topic, some in very tangible ways--and they all left me with much to think about, as well as incentives to actually do something!
The links to the videos are included in the blog if you haven't caught them already, or head to the North Bay Python channel and watch from there:
I have reached a human, who has thanked me for my patience with the chatbot. Wonder if that's part of the script.
I *know* the three attempts to get me to transfer my service instead of canceling are part of the script. That just feels like a ritual incantation at this point.
@WizardOfDocs just repeat. I am moving outside of the United States to to every question they ask
