All AI slop should be opt in.
@KevinCarson1 with appologies, "slopt-in"
Not saying I'm oblivious but I just went shopping at the busiest time on the planet, queued for 20 minutes only to realise I was at the basket-only area with my full trolley. The contents of which I then proceeded to try and balance on the weigh scales, dropping twice, with a queue of like 30 people behind me. After a panicky hour or two I eventually paid and struggled outside only to forget I'd parked in a different supermarket because there was no space, so had to carry 5 heavy bags down the road looking like a fool. Then realising I'd forgotten the key thing I'd actually come out for so going into supermarket number two before realising I had less than 2 minutes left on my parking, panicking and then running back to the car. Anyway how's your day going? 👍🫠
Kenan Malik on the Epstein files:
"“Cunt”, “bitch” and “pussy” pervade the conversations... Acquiring “pussy” is a constant obsession. “Promise an abundant [sic] of young pussy flesh”... “Thank you for a fun night... Your littlest girl was a little naughty.” These were private messages, never intended for public view. Nevertheless, they reveal how the “Epstein class” behaves when it thinks no one is watching."
There is more than misogyny, more than politics (inequality) in this objectification and abuse of women and girls - there is a more fundamental absence of everyday human qualities - empathy, imagination, sympathy, kindness.
We have allowed to flourish a system of wealth and power that promotes and rewards the very worst of us - and throws the best of us, like the Palestine Action protesters, into prison.
@GeofCox *Nothing* in writing is a "private message" (unless you're really, really stupid).
If they'd bother to stop to think for a nanosecond or so they'd have known that these messages would eventually get published.
So they knew that, and they didn't care, because they knew that they'd be immune from consequences. As has indeed turned out to be the case.
@europlus oh the posts where they try to debate the definition of opt-in are memorably terrible. opt-in is a form of affirmative consent, and they think they can debate it away. it’s gross.
When I see discussion about "AI for the people" or "community-led AI" or "public benefit AI," the focus is almost always on tooling and infrastructure.
But I don't think you can have any of those things without seriously rethinking the purposes and design of AI.
It's quite possible that LLMs and image generators — which were designed to serve profit-led industries — are simply at odds with community and public benefit. So anyone looking to build ethical and communal AI needs to start not with questions like "How do we democratize existing services?" but rather "What sort of AI would serve the needs of actual communities and societies?"

Essere antifascisti e partigiani, quindi, non è un richiamo simbolico, ma una necessità politica: significa opporsi alla guerra, allo sfruttamento, alla cancellazione dei conflitti sociali.

If you had a universal basic income that was enough to cover your basic living costs (food, rent, bills etc...).
What would you do with your time ?
@quixoticgeek Build software that brings people together with the magic of play. I think working with a team where everyone is there solely because they WANT to and not because they HAVE to would be transformative.
Friendly reminder:
NO ONE needs AI slop and more AI data centres
EVERYBODY needs clean water, affordable energy, and a habitable planet
@hachyinfra Hmm, Pachli started crashing, so out of curiosity I switched client and responsiveness seems normal again. I wonder if I've been having a client problem 🤔
@pachli aware of any recent issues which might cause sluggishness and crashes?
@mattb Can you open the About screen, navigate to the "Database" tab, tap the "Run query timings" button, take a screenshot of the screen (including all the "Table sizes" data) and send that, either in DM or e-mail to team@pachli.app. Thanks.
Every morning we have these negotiations with Karvinen. I'm standing there and trying to get my clothes on, as he's demanding something. Not pictured: Him trying to climb me as I was standing there in just the shirt.
