@arstechnica
Good. HBO MAX formerly MAX formerly HBO (idiots tried to get rid of high recognition branding) largely went to hell long ago, but they have a few things of interest. Just not enough to justify a separate subscription.
I think the thing I hate most about the Liquid Glass redesign is those damned inset sidebars, leaving a weird strip of the window background visible down the left side (and above and below). It just looks broken. And the window chrome is within it!
@mattgemmell All my major kit is still one OS behind. But I use the 26 ones most days. I still hate them. They’re full of massive vestibular triggers. iOS 26 is especially bad – horrendously buggy and glitchy.
Hey fedi, I'm looking for precise info and hard sources for Rowling's support of anti-trans legislation and TERF groups, especially how much HP money goes towards laws that target trans women
my mom wants to write an article about books to read instead of harry potter and needs info to explain why someone would want to look for an alternative
also you can suggest books that would fit the topic
pls boost for reach

TRO against federal agents use of force has been GRANTED!
There was a hearing today where a judge ruled in favor of and granted a temporary restraining order against the feds in Portland, OR using chemical weapons and excessive force after multiple lawsuits were filed after this weekend, including from a march of over 5,000 people on Saturday where young children got teargassed, and Sunday night where over 500 people protested at the ICE facility and without warning the feds gassed a large portion of the city.
The TRO blocks federal officers from using “chemical or projectile munitions,” including pepper balls, tear gas and other crowd control munitions “unless the specific target of such a weapon or device poses an imminent threat of physical harm to a law enforcement officer or other person.”
“In a well-functioning constitutional democratic republic, free speech, courageous newsgathering, and nonviolent protest are all permitted, respected, and even celebrated. In an authoritarian regime, that is not the case,” U.S. District Court Judge Michael Simon wrote in a 22-page temporary restraining order, which you can read here: https://www.opb.org/pdf/Dickinson%20v_1770160054941.pdf
The ruling also blocks federal officers from firing munitions or using weapons directed “at the head, neck, or torso of any person, unless the officer is legally justified in using deadly force against that person.”
“The temporary restraining order goes into effect for 14 days and could be renewed. Simon has scheduled a hearing on the underlying lawsuit for March 2, where he’ll take testimony from witnesses. That evidence could form a basis for an injunction should the judge deem it necessary.”

A coworker is trying to get everyone at work to just vibe code everything and today in a meeting he said something along the lines of "I know today that we rely on internal expertise, but I don't think we should do that anymore". Buddy if we can't rely on internal expertise how the fuck are we supposed to validate the output of these LLMs? We can't trust the LLM to validate itself. It was faking the tests in his PR. It wrote dozens of tests that asserted nothing, but he didn't see a problem with that because the test coverage was higher than average.
J'hésite entre changer de prénom via ma mairie et changer la mention de sexe à l'état civil après, ou tout faire d'un coup pour avoir qu'une seule démarche à faire.
Vous avez des conseils ?

My friend nicknamed his broom Simon at work. No harm done, just makes the day go quicker.
Only became a problem when a new manager started, and nearly had a heart attack when he was told "I'm going home, so I've locked Simon in the cupboard."
Think it's the best of the fictional spaceships.
I know Joss Whedon turned out to be a royal ass (though for quite a while I worked in the industry, & I can say that 79% of directors — 97% of the male directors — were total sadists) but still, he made some remarkable stuff.
One of the things I most like about Firefly was that unless in an atmosphere any space fighting / ship damage / explosions were silent. A huge pet peeve of mine with space flicks.
