Today, we’re relaunching MacStories as one unified website for everything we do.
No more separate Club and MacStories websites. No more standalone AppStories website. Same subscriptions, same perks – fewer complexities.
It’s always been about MacStories. It’s time for everything else to be part of it, too.
My editorial about today’s launch, and the journey so far: https://www.macstories.net/stories/welcome-to-the-new-unified-macstories-and-club-macstories/
I'm writing an article about W Social and I'm mentioning how it's basically a fork of Bluesky / is using its open source code.
Are there any Bluesky / ATProto experts on here willing to help me understand something, in a "explain it like I'm 5" fashion?
Thank you! 🙏

Because I am so old, for me there was no computing before I learned it.
My epiphanies:
- "structured" programming and languages with a call stack
- programming on a team
- object oriented programming
- the FOSS community
- a good open source OS
Cloud? That's just logistics.
Big Data? Please.
AI? We'll see.
What were yours?
@CartyBoston
The biggest epiphany for me was, as a bench scientist, spending months working out how to automate a process with liquid-handling robots...
Then that sense of relief when it all worked and data came out the end of the pipeline...
Then the dread when we realized that we had generated 6 weeks of data in 3 days and we had no automated way of turning that into information
@strider Very thorough!
@stefan, thanks, it's my bread. Also, I have an update from today's results:
- Bing / 1st
- Qwant / still sucks
- Others / same as yesterday
Bing was tested both for EU-centric and US-centric results. It seems, whatever was the issue, it's resolved now

Current status: fuming with rage at the SHEER INEPTITUDE of the French press in covering W Social and Mastodon.
In the article linked below "journalist" François Saltiel wrote that @Gargron "quit his own network [Mastodon] because he was fed up with the behavior of certain users."
Eugen referred to deleting his bridge to Bluesky, not quitting Mastodon FFS.
You should know Mr. Saltier simply rehashed W Social's press release and failed to mention it is a fork of Bluesky...

The start
Andy Bell is completely redesigning his personal site from scratch and breaking down each part to educate and hopefully, inspire you to build your own corner of the internet. We start with an overview of how this project is going to work and why he's doing it.
Today I once again remembered this is a thing that exists
