Because I am so old, for me there was no computing before I learned it.

My epiphanies:
- "structured" programming and languages with a call stack
- programming on a team
- object oriented programming
- the FOSS community
- a good open source OS

Cloud? That's just logistics.
Big Data? Please.
AI? We'll see.

The biggest epiphany for me was, as a bench scientist, spending months working out how to automate a process with liquid-handling robots...

Then that sense of relief when it all worked and data came out the end of the pipeline...

Then the dread when we realized that we had generated 6 weeks of data in 3 days and we had no automated way of turning that into information
