I strongly suspect that the problem there was funding, as it often is with community-driven forks. This is, in my view, the big problem that we in the open source fan/ally community need to solve, somehow... 🪄
yep, that just about covers all possible options

Yes it was. Sorry, I thought that was self-evident. I'm sure you can understand why I don't want to re-explain everything I wrote there every time the subject comes up ; )

I don't expect the NZ Greens to make any big changes to their core infra this year, with a general election in Nov. But I would appreciate a firm commitment to engage on this stuff early next year. Otherwise it just gets harder and harder to take them seriously.
The theme for next month's IndieWeb Carnival: A love letter.
"A love letter could be an expression of appreciation for someone who’s had a positive impact on your life or sharing a piece of art, media, software or something else you enjoy so more people can discover it."

man I was looking for this image for a while, glad I found it again!
love to be part of a trans generation that's simply growing old <3
that always seemed impossible! yeah trans people always came in all ages, but it felt like most of them just disappeared after a couple of years. you'd find out oh there was a cool trans femme who did a thing a couple of years back and - gone. no trace. probably stealth? moved cities? or worse. who knows.
i started labeling myself as trans back in 2002, so the aids gap was very present, but even in the decade that followed, i just didn't see trans people that didn't simply disappear after a while.
but now? there's people i've seen around for 15 years or more. we just get older. we stay trans and visible. and it's not singular people, it feels like, just a big trans age cohort. it's hundreds of people whose names and existence i keep seeing around. and that's so empowering and awesome!
and that's also why the fascists are panicking and trying to fight us hard. we are setting a precedent by existing.
Peter Drucker once famously said that the only metrics that matter to a business come from outside the business.
A successful restaurant has some number of humans who've left fed and happy. A successful hospital takes in patients and healthy people walk out. Every internal number a business produces for itself might be informative or useful but does not ultimately matter.
Whenever I see companies spouting about their internal metrics like they're proud of them, I think, bluntly: who cares?

It's been over a decade and yet the surveillance state has never been worse than what it is today. A good read! https://bookwyrm.social/book/53241/s/permanent-record
Permanent Record
Edward Snowden, the man who risked everything to expose the US government’s system of mass surveillance, reveals for the first time the story of his life, including how he helped to build that system and what motivated him to try to bring it down.
In 2013, twenty-nine-year-old Edward Snowden shocked the world when he broke with the American intelligence establishment and revealed that the United States government was secretly pursuing the means to collect every single phone call, text message, and email. The result would be an unprecedented system of mass surveillance with the ability to pry into the private lives of every person on earth. Six years later, Snowden reveals for the very first time how he helped to build this system and why he was moved to expose it.
Spanning the bucolic Beltway suburbs of his childhood and the clandestine CIA and NSA postings of his adulthood, Permanent Record is the extraordinary account of a bright young man who grew up online – a man who became a spy, a whistleblower, and, in exile, the Internet’s conscience. Written with wit, grace, passion, and an unflinching candor, Permanent Record is a crucial memoir of our digital age and destined to be a classic.

The upside is you would get to work on something that really matters and makes a net positive contribution to the world.
The downside: you'd have to work with me.

@edgeofeurope Ohhh ok. Sorry I called you grumpypants :)
@sundogplanets oh but I am
@sundogplanets no, I'm not calling you a Karen at all. I was comparing whoever wrote that mail to Karens.

@strypey I read part of it. It looks like it was authored by you. I share the feeling of not being connected to the people in the US Green Party. I could do so much for them but it is very hard to help people who think so differently.

@elifyalvac at least… I will be when my computer stops freaking out lol
Your weather app might be “wrong,” but it’s not the forecaster’s fault.
Most forecasts rely on data from miles away, missing what’s actually happening in your neighborhood. New local sensor networks aim to fix that.
@sue I think you’re right. My prediction has been that when the bubble bursts, some company that is so big we didn’t think they could possibly fail, will in fact fail. I don’t mean one of the AI companies. I mean something like oracle, ibm, adobe, etc. Some company that we don’t realise is so perilously out over their skis that when AI prices jump, they’ll be wiped out: Unable to deliver their core business, hire to replace lost talent, nor pay the AI bills any longer. I’m not guessing which one. I’m not that smart. But I think there’s gonna be a Lehman Brothers of the AI bubble, and then all hell breaks loose.
