Over 32,000 medieval manuscripts transcribed in four months using AI

Medievalists can now access automated transcriptions of 32,763 digitised medieval manuscripts, produced in just four months as part of a project called CoMMA—a large-scale corpus designed to make manuscript texts searchable and analysable at a scale that would be impossible to tackle by hand.

CoMMA

CoMMA, a Large-scale Corpus of Multilingual Medieval Archives

We present CoMMA, a large-scale corpus of medieval manuscripts produced through automatic text recognition. The corpus contains around 3.3b tokens drawn from more than 32,700 digitized manuscripts in Latin and Old French, harvested via IIIF. Unlike other resources, it is made of raw, non-normalized text enriched with layout analysis in various formats. We describe the pipeline used for large-scale acquisition and processing, and report quantitative and qualitative evaluations (average CER 9.7%). The resulting resource supports multiple use cases, from pretraining language models to corpus linguistic on historical languages and digital humanities applications.

@quidcumque k.A. hat wahrscheinlich nicht soviel Sinn gemacht. Objektiv habe ich damals schon verstanden, dass dieser Mann einfach gern die Sprache einer Frau (Expertin) kritisieren wollte (verpackt in einen "hilfreichen Tipp") und auf den Hinweis, dass ich ja nicht die einzige bin die gendert, nicht mal bei der Veranstaltung, hat er sich diese "Erklärung" überlegt. Mein episodisches Gedächtnis ist normal sehr schlecht, aber leider sehr gut bei solchen Situationen

Btw, when I was setting up Loops in the App Store, it suggested a default age limit of 9+ but I manually raised it to 16+ to match our backend age check.

I believe that Loops should be restricted to 16+, unless you run your own closed server, you can set the age limit in the backend to whatever you want, say if you want to run a family-only server.

We will be adding a lockdown mode to allow you to restrict all access behind login.

@tdp_org@mastodon.social @dansup@mastodon.social @hejchristian@mastodon.social The files (mp4, h264, 8bit color model) are 38 MB. they are accepted for upload. it is possible however that the "optimizing" step enlarges them. but why? they are already in exactly rhe format that other files downloaded from loops already have. no optimizing required. bevor the server update the very same files had err 422. other versions of the files get uploaded, but never show up in loops without any error message.all uploads with webbrowser/studio.
