I appreciate luke keeps talking about becoming a jedi and I have no idea what a jedi actually is
@kf that's okay, I feel like Luke had no idea what a Jedi actually is either

Hey do you have Amazon Prime?
Did you know that you can literally give me free money by gifting me your prime subscription on Twitch?
If you haven't already supported another streamer, I would really appreciate the support 🥺🙏
Hoping to get to like $5 of monthly income to cover a subscription for a racing overlay I'm using 🙈
Thank you for reading and considering supporting me 💚 https://twitch.tv/rats_gaming
🥺 🥺 OMG whoever gave me their prime subs, I love you. Thank you so much !! 💚
How this is implemented is crucial for the future of the #fediverse. An app having app-specific integrations to some - indeed ethical - payment systems, is one thing. But for instance offering native #monetization features on #ActivityPub protocol level, and not thinking *very hard* about the implementation and impact of that, can totally enshittify the #fedi in no time in how it attracts the wrong type of people with dollar signs in their eyes.
The current app-centric fediverse is the playground of devs and "users" that have to swallow what they create and drop onto the wire. #FOSS culture is a poor model for the evolution of the fediverse, where the latter is an existing social space where people, the online residents, have their home. It is much more than a pure technosphere and playground for app devs.
Fedi isn't ready to be growth-hacked. If successful it'll undoubtedly see corporate capture with Corporate Fedi the outcome, same as the web.
do australian fedi conferences exist? I've seen a few but they're always at like, 1am aest
I was yapping with Jim from The Approach the other day, and our conversation turned to a set of institutions that had been significant in both our lives – *not* collectives, necessarily, *not* coops, simply small businesses run by human beings, who’d decided for whatever reason to be “bad at capitalism.”
That is, these businesses and their owners faced the world with policies and practices that were consciously suboptimal, by the late capitalist economy’s cut-throat rules of accumulation, because it allowed them to preserve space for the community, for taking care of neighbors, and for the introduction of other, more congenial values.
After I got off the call with Jim, I remembered what it was like to run a West Philly coffeehouse, a long long time ago, that was like that, so we could e.g. let runaway kids crash in the basement, feed unhoused customers for free on the DL, etc. And I thought: huh, actually, this space is really undertheorized on the left.
things I believe:
- #llms represent a fundamental change for the better to how we build software
- "agentic" coding is nonsense
- #llms are not "intelligent"
- #llms are statistical models of language for increasingly alien values of "language"
- language running on its own like a wind-up toy can do a lot of things that only "intelligent" people used to be able to do
- we should pause model development
- we need way more regulation around datacenters and energy and environmental protection in general
- openai, anthropic, grok are various levels of terrible
- #llms are an extremely subversive technology that allows us to fight the alienation that our current software/tech ecosystem pushes onto us all
- "prompt engineering" or whatever you want to call it is as hard a discipline as I've ever encountered
- harm reduction is more effective than abstinence
- the labor implication are serious and require organizing and need to be addressed by governments
- I have thought deeply and did a lot of maths around my inference usage and how it lines up with my core beliefs, probably more than most
#TALA. Great layout engine for text to #diagrams used by #D2 and it is now #FOSS.
> TALA is a novel autolayout algorithm designed with software architecture diagrams in mind. This means it's primarily an orthogonal layout engine, which more closely matches what you might find on whiteboards, rather than the DAG-based ones that grow in one direction. It blends ideas from different graph-drawing research papers (cited in source code) along with original techniques to achieve aesthetic diagrams. It considers multiple objectives of "aesthetic", including symmetry, median distance, flow, clustering of like nodes, and much more.

SECURITY INCIDENT ON MASTODON.BIDA.IM — ONGOING CREDENTIAL STUFFING CAMPAIGN ACROSS THE FEDIVERSE
An ongoing credential stuffing campaign is targeting Mastodon instances across the fediverse: compromised accounts are being used to post telegram spam links. You've probably seen the spam in your timeline, coming from various instances.
Our instance was hit too: starting around Aug 24, 2026, a bot logged into ~68 accounts on bida and later used some of them to spam. We've contained it locally, but the campaign is still active elsewhere — so this post is both an incident report for our users and a heads-up for other admins, with the commands we used.
A comrade from the Aarhusian activist community was brutalised after the counter-protest against a Nazi demonstration on 5 September. She is around 50 and uses a wheelchair. According to her and other witnesses, a police officer stood nearby eating a sandwich. Asked to intervene, he replied that he was “a traffic officer”—street-violence was not his department. The lesson: before you are brutalised, make sure that it is right police department that is nearby. #ACAB #Redox #acap #redox
@Feuerbachianer shit, yous got it worse than I thought up there :/
As The Bear argues, we need to be clear about the impactions of this weekend's two mobilisations by the far Right:
'Dover showed large scale organisation & Portsmouth showed rapid mobilisation. Put together, they show a capability we haven’t seen in the modern far-right - and that capability, rather than just the number of people involved, is what we should be paying serious attention to'!
The Fascists are among us & the police are not going to be much help!

strictly speaking this is trading in _synthetic_ MBS (mooncake-backed securities) because the underlier is a CDS (contract to distribute sugar) rather than physical mooncakes.
#Sweden: "Issues of Sami land rights have moved from local to national prominence in the run-up to the 13 September vote.
"In its manifesto, the Christian Democrats pledged to “resolve the conflicts between reindeer husbandry and industrial development” and to protect “everyone’s right to hunt on state-owned land”.
The far-right Sweden Democrats – who could enter government for the first time after the vote – have also singled out reindeer herders in their manifesto, pitting them against industrial development, tourism and the wider Swedish public and questioning their land rights."

“When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of it--always.”

Brey, you can still vote - I don't care. But I am telling you right now you're always gonna be a chicken voting for KFC till you show these pols your power. Right now, they certainly don't fear you, and they don't even respect you as a full human being - you're a commodity to them, a commodity they trade to billionaire CEOs for money and influence. No matter who you elect, this won't get better till you make them fucking FEAR the consequences of betraying you.
You do that? In your masses.
@eivindtraedal Apropos, @arnfinnp
Definitivt.
Aisle reported 9 out of 12 confirmed vulns.
@bagder Fascinating that they still manage to find more after looking at the code quite a few times already.
