is the AI teat so delicious you’ve given up the ability to do computing for it? really? then how about you stop codegooning and pretending it’s good
it’s not hard to understand, there’s literally no reason why the hardware is inaccessibly expensive other than AI corporations buying all the future manufacturing capacity for this shit for datacenters and manufacturers being a cartel to make that possible
so how the fuck do these guys pretend to not see it?
mrrrp *curls up for a nap*
who are these fucking space aliens who claim to be into computers and don’t care or don’t understand that the AI horseshit they love is the reason why they can’t afford computer hardware
Found a useful looking Open Source tool. Distributed as source code rather than a binary, which is fair enough.
But all the README says is:
> Compile the project like any normal rust binary
Yeah, cheers pal. What a nice and user-friendly instruction. Sure that won't send me down a hundred rabbit-holes requiring me to install ever-more esoteric packages to match your dev environment.
And we wonder why people turn to LLMs for help.
(Please don't reply to tell me how to compile a Rust binary.)
@Edent This is modern nerdism. It has gotten this bad. They even ship AppImages with external dependencies. There is NO backwards compatibility, especially in the Linux space. This has got to end.
I am terribly sorry to interrupt your doomscrolling, but tonight's Low Quality Ad is for this Tiger Blossom Sticker. Look at him. He is a bit derpy. He picked those flowers himself. He is so proud of himself. Okay, you can go back to your depressing shit now.

He has no idea how to get the flowers off his back with those derpy little arms and legs of his.

Mosque in Schelle Vandalized with Swastikas and Hate Messages
A mosque in Schelle was defaced this week with swastikas, hate messages, and dog feces, according to the advocacy group Muslim Rights Watch.
#Muslim Rights Watch Belgium speaks of "Muslim hatred in its purest form". "This is not an isolated case of vandalism or an act of 'troublemaking', but a disgusting and explicit expression of Muslim hatred," said chairman Mohamed Amin Chaib.

Egads - it's that time again - tomorrow evening (8/9 Sept, 20:00 NZST) is our monthly FOSS/open source/Libre catch up - we meet at https://meeting.iridescent.nz - all are welcome - we'd love to stress-test our video conferencing system, which should be able to handle 150+ simultaneous participants... We talk about any problems/questions those attending are interested in! We also have lots of informal presentations. We're delighted to have beginners come along, as there's so much to teach & learn!
@lightweight I might try to get to that if I can get my other planned errands done in time. Is there an agenda or supporting content anywhere?
@elettrona OK, that's seven edits of that post LOL
@VE3RWJ Being a complex discussion, I had to take care of it to be as complete as possible. I don't want to polarize it like the ones I'm criticizing.
that guy from the internet archive does good and vital work in digital preservation and warrants admiration for it
unfortunately, he also posts
@davidgerard oh no…what now…
The tech collective behind NoBlogs.org and a host of other free online initiatives has announced that they are shutting down as a consequence of the US State Department designating them a "global terrorist."
This represents a significant blow to online freedom. It is not just a threat to anarchists or volunteer-run tech collectives; the Trump administration aims to shut down any institution or project that it perceives to stand in the way of its pursuit of totalitarian control.
We must fight them every inch of the way.

I don't assume you hate the Fediverse. Someone who hated the Fediverse wouldn't be on it unless they came on just to bash it.
I happen to really like the Fediverse because it's not commercial and not run by some algorithm.
I would not equate the Fediverse with extremism on any side. That's not the Fediverse. That's more like the algorithm places, like X🚽.

@unruly thankfully it's not made of extremists. But the ones who are on fediverse, are definitely noisy.
True, I could report them to the mods, but not every sentence annoying me, should deserve a lecture, or even a suspension, or more drastically a permanent ban.
One thing is saying "you're always victims, you're useless, we are tired of you" - some words that a user wrote me some days ago. That one is pure offense so I reported it.
But I didn't find appropriate to report the person saying "a murder should never be tolerated, no reason" - the post was referred to what I said about AI used to describe images for visually impaired people.
I did feel offended, yes, that annoyed me, I blocked the person as I don't want to discuss in those terms with anyone, even if it's a metaphor. Same for those saying "perverts glasses" and similar.
Nothing that triggers me, should be considered trigger for the whole fediverse. Discuss positions till possible, then act individually.
Sorry, the app encountered an unexpected error
