Apparently you open the glovebox from a pull down menu. That didn’t need disrupting either.

Having ridden in one as an Uber, they also appear to have disrupted the concept of “needing suspension”. I now never select “eco” when hiring an Uber in case I get a Tesla. I’m in my 50s. My back doesn’t deserve that.

This works great in my neighborhood coop grocery store, Quartiersladen in Freiburg, DE.

Each month you can choose to work two shifts, or pay €30 to maintain membership. Groceries sold to all members at a discount. Always fully staffed!

Placed an order on aliexpress. Now to see what I get charged for import fees by postnl/customs...

You might be happy to hear that this absolutely exists in the wild.

The tiny garden co-op (only 2 folx mainlining), where I get a bunch of veggies every week, offers the choice of paying X per year as a consumer, or enjoy a discount if you agree to help ~15 hours a year with the weekly harvest. The socializing with good people you can get for free, if you're not that hermitically inclined.

If one is strapped for cash, that's a solid way to participate and get glorious food, on par with throwing money at the problem if you're stuck in old economy and cannot spare the time instead.

This co-op alone helps feeding ~50 people, with a surprisingly tiny sliver of land, for a couple years now.

Repair Cafés seems to be becoming trendy, too!

There's so much more potential for a new economy to literally sprout from the ashes of corporate slash and burn, but those ideas need more nourishment. People say "it'll never work!" until you show 'em it does.

@malteengeler @IntersektionalesGemecker Natürlich ist das Theater. Genau so wie Demonstrationen Theater sind. Die bringen ja angeblich auch nix. Man kann niemanden zum Umdenken zwingen. Das ist aber auch nicht das Ziel.

Es geht um die Idee. Je präsenter sie in der Gesellschaft ist, desto einfacher können ITler vor ihren Managern für die Alternativen argumentieren. Es geht darum, das das alte "No one gets fired for buying IBM" aus den Köpfen raus muss. Ohne Gegenwind gibt es kein Umdenken.

In the dream, people volunteered a few hours for worker coops & got discounts—like coffee at cost or 20% off fabric. It was apprenticing, building community, plus free stuff! For the businesses, it was labor for surge times plus job recruitment.

Definitely going in a story some day!
