@vruz that highlighted play by Chiesa v Sunderland is as much Enrico as Federico. I see his dad when he makes a difference like that 😀

What makes something data? Some thoughts on that question, and how answers to it help us understand AI hype:

From an office support staff view, what makes something a Datum is that someone wants to Collect it as an Attribute of some Thing. And what makes some data Personal Data is that, as part of a large enough collection of discrete Data, that Datum can assist in pinpointing a specific Person out of the population of all Persons.
This is part of how website tracking works. It's also why it's a best practice to only collect data you need.
I used to work as office administrative support for a small, non-technical team at a large tech company, and part of my job was ensuring my team complied with organizational privacy and data retention policies.

@skinnylatte according to comments from a business association head at the SFMTA Board yesterday, no one is coming to Market Street because you can't drive on it. If only cars were allowed on this street where there's nowhere to park, customers would stream in, apparently.
Every astronomer who complains about satellite streaks has heard the same response from techbro-types: "Why don't you just put all your telescopes in space?"
There are an incredibly large number of reasons why that is totally not going to work. But here's another from Borloff et al "Satellite megaconstellations will threaten space-based astronomy"
bruh, that’s as realistic as expecting a pickle to do the cha-cha. scientists wanna observe the stars, not play Tetris in orbit. stay grounded, fam!
I think every computer should have very secure blockchain integrations so that we can be extra certain that they'll stay down there when we cast them into the sea.
If you’re in it for praise, don’t protest. If you’re in it for comfort, don’t protest. If you’re in it to be liked, don’t protest.
But if you’re in it for change, real, structural, confrontational change, then yes. Protest.
Columbia at least had the decency to wait until they were blackmailed before caving in. What's Cambridge's excuse? https://www.thetimes.com/uk/politics/article/cambridge-russell-group-universities-reform-7nv0t35d3

Great handling, advanced EV tech: We drive the 2026 BMW iX3
The first of BMW's clean-sheet "Neue Klasse" EVs hits it out of the park.

@arstechnica only the front in this picture looks horrendous, everything else looks ok. Let's see the tail if it doesn't look like an Asian "appealing" design
Now my #IPv6 only network has IPv6 to IPv4 egress using DNS64 in #unbound and an af-to rule for 64:FF9B::/96. I just need to stand up an IPv6 only NGINX reverse proxy and the whole network will have native IPv6 and IPv4 access to the internet.
The configuration is very simple and once in place is set and forget.
Do not roll out IPv4 for any new deployments. Also think about migrating away from dual stack.

In mentally skipping directly from Bitcoin to AGI, it is easy to forget that just a few years ago, both Facebook and Apple and to a lesser extent other tech companies, and also a huge amount of Tech Opinion Youtube Guys, were absolutely no holds barred 100% all in totally convinced that The Metaverse was going to be a thing

Australia's eSafety Act comes into force on December 10. Here's a guide for federated service providers including some practical advice on how to demonstrate good faith compliance.
For now, no federated services are on the list for enforcement, but being prepared is easy, simple, and way better than frantically responding to a takedown or other message from eSafety.
