btw it’s not just the lead hyprland dev who’s toxic, it’s the whole community. Go check out the official project discord and you’ll see it’s full of pepe frogs and the vibe of 4chan boys posting the most repugnant shit you’d expect them to, all the way back to the very beginning. That discord is functionally a radicalisation funnel. If you’ve been around the internet long enough you know exactly the vibe as soon as you see it.
Got mad at Amazon breaking the ability to decrypt my library books via Kindle for PC and resurrected an old technique:
- Screen recording of Kindle for PC
- hit the space bar as fast as humanly possible to page through the entire book in like a minute
- use ffmpeg to remove duplicate frames from the resultant video
- use ffmpeg to dump out each frame/page to a separate file named after the page number
- use tesseract to do OCR on each page and dump that output into a single text file
This works ridiculously well.
(Simply holding down the space bar slows down page rendering, resulting in captures of partially rendered pages, which thwarts the duplicate detection. I'll probably improve this by firing my own spacebar press event sequentially.)
I am pretty tired of jumping through flaming hoops to publish a small website and send some emails when I’m not even self-hosting (specifically to avoid the flaming hoops)
So are other people on hosted Ghost (Pro) installs also seeing links *to their own sites, in their own newsletters* marked by Gmail as “likely to be harmful” or is it just me?
Was going a bit too slow to make it across the whole bridge this time. But got some pretty decent manuals in today.
@ThePaulMcBride is anyone Paul? We are so deeply fucked

I got this letter from the Scientologists. It tells me I'm doing something right
Oh, are we boycotting Disney now? Already on it! For years now.
I'm enjoying audio shows from the open web, and *loving* it.
If you want an alternative to the MCU I can't recommend The Red Panda Adventures highly enough! And the same studio also does Deck Gibson: Far Reach Commander, which could serve as a Star Wars alternative.
Tonight though... I'm listening to a small isolated crew orbiting a remote red dwarf star... Wolf359!
@alcinnz nice one, both have handy rss, might be as helpful to others as is for me to have a go
@SnowyCA @ericmacknight From a skim of the article (I can copy if from reader mode if that's easier) it looks like they're still using some wood pulp in the mix, which is... disheartening. I was really hoping they'd found more options that don't require any wood pulp, or that can use recycled paper in place of it. (I guess if the amount of wood pulp needed is small enough, it could be sourced from prunings or fallen branches, or other 'waste' timber rather than cutting down whole trees just for it. But, as the article mentioned, breaking down wood into pulp also takes some pretty harsh and environmentally unfriendly chemicals, and I don't think the pieces being any smaller makes much difference there.)
But yeah, I hadn't really thought about it but there'd be a lot of grass clippings from maintaining empty grassland that's not being used for grazing. Over here, in fire prone areas it's required that you keep lawns or grass to under a certain height for fire safety, plus councils are always mowing verges and parks so there's no shortage of grass clippings. The article also mentions that the company looked at agricultural waste like tomato leaves, but I'm guessing those also use some wood pulp as well.
Well I just want to jump in here and say
Zuckerberg deserves to be insulted.
And that's it's deeply dysfunctional that they're banning you for talking about their own products.
Maybe if we're really lucky their AI feeds will get banned by their AI moderators.
