@evan we have just prototyped a new tool for moderators to deal with potential misleading contents on the fedi : https://bonfirenetworks.org/posts/content_labelling_in_bonfire
Would love to get feedbacks and codesign it together (original thread: https://indieweb.social/@bonfire/111822653600466648 )
Public Interest Social Networks
Bonfire is built by communities, for communities. Rooted in autonomy, mutual care, and collective power. Co-create your tools, reclaim your data, and resist manipulation by shaping your own federated digital spaces.
Previously at @bonfire@indieweb.social
🔥 We've developed a new bonfire extension based on a documented design pattern to validate the power of Bonfire's modularity and to initiate closer collaboration with researchers, activists, and organisations that are committed to designing and fostering safer digital spaces.

@UlrikeHahn @matt Thanks, made a note of it: https://github.com/bonfire-networks/bonfire-app/issues/832
@linos, the easiest way to understand Bonfire is to think of it as "WordPress for federated social networks".
@brembs
btw we had a chat with @ronent and tomorrow we will meet again - while funding remains the crucial problem to address, thrive to create a cooperative ecosystem where different projects and communities can collaborate on solutions rather than compete is essential as well and we believe can potentially unlock novel ways of getting and distributing resources to achieve common goals...
@Lambo
Huge thanks for the suggestion! We’ve now implemented that as well and being able to paste non-DOI ids or URLs and getting the same article preview indeed greatly improves the usability.

Here's where the data is fetched at the moment (we'll be adding other data sources as well) https://github.com/bonfire-networks/bonfire_files/blob/main/lib%2Fopen_science%2Fdoi.ex
@nomadcat Bonfire is web-based, native apps are in the roadmap but not as a replacement of the web versions :)
We're still in beta but you can give it a try at https://campground.bonfire.cafe (testing and local-only instance)
When a user shares a scientific paper link on bonfire, the app automatically fetches the #DOI metadata to display an interactive preview. This means instant access to key details like authors, journal, publication date and abstract. The feature was proposed and co-designed with @jorge to be implemented in the open science app, still a work in progress, any further feedbacks are very welcome 😀 #openscience @open_science@a.gup.pe @UlrikeHahn @brembs
@berniethewordsmith yes definitely ! Have a look at https://bonfirenetworks.org/hosting
@scottjenson awesome, here some links:

Considering our time zones (we're in CET), we can likely meet from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM PST. Please let us know which days suit you best, and we'll try to make it work... Looking forward to chat with you! Thanks a lot 😊
@scottjenson would love to benefit from your experience to discuss some #UX challenges we're facing with bonfire (especially how to better integrate the plugins system)
🔥 Exciting News! On January 31st, Bonfire will be at the heart of a workshop at UCL's Bartlett School for Sustainable Construction. We're teaming up with students in the Inclusive Learning Environments program to reimagine open digital learning spaces. Expect innovative ideas that will enhance how to design with Bonfire ( https://bonfirenetworks.org/design ) and possibly spark new developmental pathways! #BonfireWorkshop #UCL #InclusiveLearning
We've updated our apps page to include more details about communities involved in co-designing each apps, fediverse group to have discussions and brainstorming ideas and the link to the open pad to add requirements and feature proposals.

@UlrikeHahn
maybe we can stick with the
@open_science@a.gup.pe and use several hashtags to filter conversations to try minimising the complexity?

Follow up: this morning we had a great chat with @UlrikeHahn
We've updated the Open Science Brainstorming pad https://notes.bonfire.cafe/niboe-use-case?view
We invite all of you to contribute to the pad with your ideas and get in touch. By following and mentioning this bot
