Bonfire is built by communities, for communities. Rooted in autonomy, mutual care, and collective power. Co-create your tools, reclaim your data, and resist manipulation by shaping your own federated digital spaces.

@nomadcat Bonfire is web-based, native apps are in the roadmap but not as a replacement of the web versions :)
We're still in beta but you can give it a try at https://campground.bonfire.cafe (testing and local-only instance)
When a user shares a scientific paper link on bonfire, the app automatically fetches the #DOI metadata to display an interactive preview. This means instant access to key details like authors, journal, publication date and abstract. The feature was proposed and co-designed with @jorge to be implemented in the open science app, still a work in progress, any further feedbacks are very welcome 😀 #openscience @open_science@a.gup.pe @UlrikeHahn @brembs
@berniethewordsmith yes definitely ! Have a look at https://bonfirenetworks.org/hosting
@scottjenson awesome, here some links:

Considering our time zones (we're in CET), we can likely meet from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM PST. Please let us know which days suit you best, and we'll try to make it work... Looking forward to chat with you! Thanks a lot 😊
@scottjenson would love to benefit from your experience to discuss some #UX challenges we're facing with bonfire (especially how to better integrate the plugins system)
🔥 Exciting News! On January 31st, Bonfire will be at the heart of a workshop at UCL's Bartlett School for Sustainable Construction. We're teaming up with students in the Inclusive Learning Environments program to reimagine open digital learning spaces. Expect innovative ideas that will enhance how to design with Bonfire ( https://bonfirenetworks.org/design ) and possibly spark new developmental pathways! #BonfireWorkshop #UCL #InclusiveLearning
We've updated our apps page to include more details about communities involved in co-designing each apps, fediverse group to have discussions and brainstorming ideas and the link to the open pad to add requirements and feature proposals.

@UlrikeHahn
maybe we can stick with the
@open_science@a.gup.pe and use several hashtags to filter conversations to try minimising the complexity?

Follow up: this morning we had a great chat with @UlrikeHahn
We've updated the Open Science Brainstorming pad https://notes.bonfire.cafe/niboe-use-case?view
We invite all of you to contribute to the pad with your ideas and get in touch. By following and mentioning this bot
@open_science@a.gup.pe - we can keep track of any relevant threads. Let's build this together 🔥

@spencer yeah you could add extensions or even easier you can seamlessly switch flavours
@berniethewordsmith if you are looking for a standard microblogging experience with some focus on safety and moderation, the Classic flavour (https://bonfirenetworks.org/app/classic/) should do it :)
🚀 Our website just got a major update with new resources for communities and developers:
📚 Enhanced documentation & brand new tutorials section ( https://bonfirenetworks.org/courses/ )
🌐 Explore our apps ( https://bonfirenetworks.org/apps ), extensions ( https://bonfirenetworks.org/extensions ), and themes ( https://bonfirenetworks.org/themes )
🔍 Learn about our pilot communities

@jorge @UlrikeHahn @niboe@red.niboe.info FYI a topical recent mailing from Free Software Foundation Europe: https://notes.bonfire.cafe/E3IYMud-TpiXHN_T_hrJ0Q?view which mentions this presentation: https://media.fsfe.org/w/cLSKf9oReoxLPj8CpNarHV
@jonny sounds good! we'll set up a dedicated discussion space soon and share it here! @UlrikeHahn @niboe@red.niboe.info
@UlrikeHahn sounds great, we're up for a call to share our plans and discuss how we can follow up together @niboe@red.niboe.info
@UlrikeHahn this is super interesting, together with @niboe@red.niboe.info we've started co-designing a federated digital space focused on open science. We're building it in public (you can see the current status here https://bonfirenetworks.org/open_science/ ) and it would be great to include your thoughts and improve the document together :)
