On December 31, we are shutting down our legacy Codeberg Pages in favor of its already available replacement.

In our blog post we share how you can check if your pages are deployed via the legacy setup, and if so how you can migrate: https://blog.codeberg.org/migrate-your-site-to-the-new-git-pages-backed-codeberg-pages-now-were-sunsetting-codeberg-pages-v2.html

@chlopmarcin I did not say it would be particularly useful.

@thomasfuchs back in those days, we didn’t need any gym subscription. Move a computer or monitor here and there, and you lifted more than enough 💪

@lavaeolus das wäre ja verbreitung von fake-news. 😉

@webhat It was about 4:30, now it’s 6:00

il y a déjà des articles (de blog) sur comment identifier une offre d'emploi qui correspond à un bullshit job au sens strict de graeber ? c'est pour éviter d'être redondant.

on the one hand, a much younger me really loved hacking on a BSD and learning internals up close

on the other hand, a current day me really liked building on top of a unix-like kernel that worked on a broad modern hardware base and could run every application I wanted it to, until the slop got to it

I think they’re just East Asian dragons with no wings… 🤔

Nothing new, but I'm disappointed.

Many years ago, Linux represented the alternative. The question was: "Why don't you just use Windows? It's easier." And the answer was, almost always: "To be free."

The "bazaar" spirit of Linux and its distributions made us feel free. Personally, I've always thought that the "cathedral" approach of the BSDs produces more reliable and maintainable results. But that feeling of freedom was fantastic.

There wasn't a company deciding everything. There was a kernel developed by people following what they believed was right. Or what the community, in one way or another, was asking for.

Torvalds has always been quite outspoken (remember the middle finger to Nvidia?). But the general spirit was, again, freedom. Anyone, sitting in their bedroom, could contribute in some way. Even me.

Today, after the embrace of AI, I read statements about wanting only "serious" contributors, "serious" contributions, because the world depends on this code and reliability must come first.

I understand the problem. Maintaining the Linux kernel is a huge responsibility. And low-quality contributions, especially those blindly generated with AI, are a real problem.

But what I hear, between the lines, is something like: "Hey, kid in your bedroom. If you don't have the right tools, the money to afford them, or the experience we expect, maybe your contribution isn't even worth considering."

Am I exaggerating? Maybe. But this is what I got from the tone and content of the latest public statements.

And it makes me sad.

Because it feels like a transformation towards what we wanted to escape, back then.

So please don't ask me why the BSD community, imperfect as it is, feels like home to me.

When I see young people, with limited resources, being able to contribute and attend conferences (thanks to the support of the Foundations), and I see the enthusiasm in their eyes, I feel at home.

Because I still remember what it meant to be that kid in a bedroom.

And I really hope we never close the door in their face.

To those who complain about Deutsche Bahn*,
wait till you try the Deutsche Autobahn..

We decided to try a new transport mode to cross Germany this week, having left ticket booking too late to be reasonably priced and given recent disruptions on the line.
Our rental EV, a VW ID.4 was perfect, long range, lots of space, good acceleration and a very large network of super fast chargers everywhere.

But I wonder if there is more than a 50km stretch of autobahn between Denmark and the Belgian border that is not currently undergoing some kind of work?

Back to letting the train take the strain next time.

*I admit I am occasionally one of those too.

i’ve been writing about crypto for a while now, but this new addition to the $TRUMP memecoin website fine print may be the most blatant “lol you suckers are our exit liquidity” i’ve seen so far

(CIC Digital is just a shell company Trump uses for the $TRUMP memecoin and some other projects; it’s wholly owned by Trump’s revocable trust)

@farah gross. Saw that. Blocked.
