Is it wrong that I find it weirdly comforting to be back on familiar ground in the censorship vs. free expression debate? With the religious ultraright swinging the banhammer, against the consensual depiction of sex play, and free speech groups calling out their prudish authoritarianism.

It would be a serious mistake to think that the forces that prevailed in the past will prevail again. No one is coming to save us from authoritarianism. If you hope to live in a democracy, then you need to be working on rebuilding them.
For the reason I explain in the rest of that post. It's been weird to have the conservative far right cynically claiming to care about freedom of expression, and liberals and the centre-left engaging in knee-jerk campaigns in favour of violating that universal human right (eg Christchurch Call).
