@davidgerard its oh so much worse if you're like me and run arm hardware. I might just keep manually patching the 6.1.XX kernel I maintain for my hardware until netbsd gets better driver support or... something

@davidgerard current netBSD status: there is an audio stack. it correctly identifies a wide variety of audio hardware. it starts them up without errors. no sound comes out
@davidgerard I used to be mad/fuming about that too, until I realised the whole GPU support in NetBSD is basically done by a single unpaid volunteer. And same can be said about their WiFi stack, or their hardware virtualization. And then their entire budget for everything last year was less than 10% of what Meta or Google would spend on a single engineer supporting Linux - and megacorps have hundreds of engineers contributing to Linux.
Then it became clear to me that this is a miracle and incredible and this project and these people need more support and appreciation.

@davidgerard Yeah I have a few thinkpads of the "of course everything works under linux etc" variety, and I tried putting netbsd on one of them and there was zero support for the built-in wifi. I hadn't even thought to check, I just absolutely took for granted that this was basic old hardware that everything supported. Whoopsie. It's a different world.
