One thing that I struggle to explain to 5th graders about programing is that they need to *click* on the console window before they try to type text to be processed by their program.
They are also mystified by pressing "enter" to submit the text to the program.
Maybe I should make them a little text adventure so they understand how a terminal/text interface works?
I mean... it's not surprising they've never encountered one before.
Sometimes I call "enter" ... "return" and they mystifies them too.
But, they can all type square and round brackets. So that's something.

They used to be called "carriage returns" because in those days they were pulled by horses.
